Hi everyone, I just joined yesterday, and as of today I HAD 29 days. I chose to lose my quit for various reasons, mostly due to depression. Without turning this into a long sob story or anything like that, I will still be quitting smoking, just not for today. I am unable to make any pledges that I will not smoke. I know I had 29 days behind me,,, but that is where it will sit for right now.... behind me. I still plan to quit, I am just unable to do so right now for many reasons. For now I have reset my quit date in July,, maybe when I am on holidays I will be more prepared for this and have more knowledge and quit skills with me. I will be preparing daily for this event as it is a big milestone in my life and I still want to quit. For the couple of people here that I have come to know and love, you already know what the story is behind this and I thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for helping me make it to 29 days. The longest I have ever quit in 24 years of smoking. I never would have done it without you!! My wonderful friends. To those who don't know me, just a brief sentence or two for now.. I suffer from cronic depression and it is overpowering my life right now. I have to deal with the emotional demon before I can kick the nicodemon in the ash! I will be "doing my homework" very seriously on both demons that I face, and one day I will succeed. In the meantime, thank you all for the warm welcomes earlier.. .. and Feebs, you gotta show me how to do the font thing!! Love you all and good night. KTQ Tracy

Dear Harley Mom, I too failed at day 29, but it was almost 30 (five hours to go). At that point in time I really think it was a mind thing for me. It was wanting something I could not have. I also was under a tremendous amount of stress and "gave up" cause it was too hard. Since that time I have learned many valuable lessons one of which is that when we do figure out the quit, we can never have just one. It will not happen for us becuase we are addicted to nicotine. Second thing I learned is that although I am a perfectionist, i cannot do it alone. It is okay to ask for medication to help ease the edge off this fight. It is also okay to ask for help and support from others. The only reason I made it as far as I did was the support of people like you. Through thick and thin. I now am beginning a medication regimine and am determined to keep trying and make it stick. Know that with friends and medical help we can do this together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know how hard you have been trying since day one and you are to be commended for your efforts. Hi Tracy, Don't ever think of yourself as a failure, that will only make your depression deepen. I can't believe how many people on this board are going through depression, me included. I also have panic attacks, but with the meds I'm on has helped. I had none today. As many of the others said just keep coming to the site and reading and when you are ready to come back we will all be here to welcome you back home. You will be in my thought and prayers. The depression was the worse part of quitting for me. All those emotions are a lot to handle without that good old crutch, the cigarette. I suffered with this as well so I know exactly what you are talking about. Ladybugg said she went through the same as well. Look at our stats! We did it and so can you. One day at a time. That is how we make it and no matter what, we always practice N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever. Don't give up on yourself. You can do this. Harley_mom, 30 days is a very rough time period for many people. I too failed at 34 days once. The depression does drag you down and is very difficult to deal with. I do hope that you come back soon and watch out for that 30 day pit. Next time, just be aware that that is a typcially rough time period and that you can and WILL get through it next time. Hang in there and come back soon! Crave the Quit! Really want to quit? Do exactly what you're doing. Do some homework and get your doctor involved. Let them know about this attempt and the fact that depression set in. They can help make sure that does not happen the next time. Dealing with the nicotine withdrawal is enough, you don't need depression as well. I wish you luck and I hope you're back here very soon showing off 30 days on your meter!
