Hello all; Yes you will always crave a cig...I smoked for 5 years quit for 20 years. Started back up for a year, quit for a year and then started back up again...and all for stupid reasons..not that I craved them, but someone in my life at that point would tell me that I wasn't allowed to smoke..because I quit...and being very strong willed and thick headed...I smoked...To tell you the truth it was a great feeling, (starting back up again) for the first month or two. Then reality sets in and you realize...OMG I am addicted again...I could not believe I quit for 20 years and was up to a pack a day in less then a month...wow...You just have to keep telling yourself..Im doing this for me and me alone...no one else....I just wish I could get my daughter to quit smoking, I sort of blame myself for her starting...kids do what they see mom do....I talked to her yesterday and she told me not to preach to her...thats what she hates about "quitters" they think they are right and smokers are wrong...I guess I thought the same way...she is only 19 yrs old a single mom and has a liver diease...smoking is the worst thing she could be doing to herself....thanks for letting me vent....Melody My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/27/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 289 Amount Saved: $42 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 11 Mins: 44 Seconds: 1

I think the secret is "thinking it through". Those who think it through to the end each time they think about smoking won't light up. Also, a lot of relapse happens to people who drop out of their support groups. I, personally, will spend the rest of my life around nicotine addicts - in recovery or out of recovery is the difference. I hope to spend my life among recovering nic. addicts rather than those who still smoke. To anwser the subject question: No, I don't fear that someday I'll smoke again, because all I can see is today. And today I won't smoke. Thanks for the post, Joe. I think it's important to look at the lasting effects of addiction. Brain imprints never go away. The good, bad and ugly that one experiences never exits the brain. gpw My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 28 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 429 Amount Saved: $112 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 15 Mins: 38 Seconds: 41

Awesome post, Joe...... I put off many a quit by telling myself I couldn't last a month, or two or a year. That other people before me had quit and caved, that my life wouldn't be the same if I didn't smoke. All I can say is going thru withdrawals has been horrible and painful to myself and my family, but I am HEALTHIER than I was 54 days ago, I can walk for an hour and not have pain in my chest when I breathe, my hair STILL smells like shampoo hours after my shower, and I know I will live longer now because of the decision I made almost two months ago. Am I afraid I will start again? No. Because I have had discussions with the Nicodemon when he has come knockin' and pretty much told him that I no longer need to smoke to cope with the "crisis of the moment". And as long as I can remember that and hold true, I won't smoke. Ever. thanks again. great post! I think if you are forced in to quitting you are more likely to relapse. If you are truly ready to quit FOR YOU I think your mind is made up thats it NO MORE! So when the temptation comes 1 year 2 years what ever you do not feel like you are missing anything by saying NO I DO NOT SMOKE ANY MORE! I have quit before for everyone that wanted me to try to stop smoking. This was the time for ME! Your right It Is all in your MIND You know why you quit, never forget it. I am glad that you posted this. It is something I hear alot and makes me scared and to think negatively. But to know its all in the min and nothing else helps. Sometimes thinking about other people and seeing them smoke while on a quit you start thinking "Well they are still smoking why cant I" or they are okay and they are smoking. But we've got t remeber that we all are different and dont know our futures and what good is your life if you do something you know is deadly and dont stop. live in denial and/or worry neccessantly. Right on G-man! :) 1. Some dwell on smoking from a romantic perspective 2. Some think 'just one' 3. Some stop caring about themselves (the 'what the hell' attitude) and sometimes... 4. Some just stop THINKING 'again' ~all the best N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 174 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,847 Amount Saved: $870 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 14 Mins: 22 Seconds: 14
