doinit, Stay strong do not give in to the urges. Make good use of your coping mechanisms. Stay far away from any pack of cigarettes. Take Care, Melanie ___________________ The SSC Support Team

I thought I had this thing licked this morning. Eight days and the symptoms were easing. Stressful afternoon and two sick kids and a sick wife and the 6 year old melting down . . . It's all I can do to stay quit. My wife is still smoking so far and just having them near is bad, but after an evening like this one I'm really fighting the nicodemons. I went cold turkey so the nic should be out of my system but I feel almost as bad as days 3 & 4. I was really not expecting this at this point, though I don't know why since I have quit before for as long as 2.5 years and went back. I really can't go back this time. The coping tools I used in week one aren't helping now, it's pure will-power that's keeping me quit and I'm taking it on minute at a time. Words of wisdom from anyone who has made it through this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for the support. I had been reading all your posts but couldn't put a clear thought together in writing. With your support and my willpower I was able to get throught the night smoke-free! I am so happy that I didn't give in and have a new-found comfort in my quit. I'm going to be OK. I wich I could have found this site years ago. One thing I did, and it sounds VERY silly but it worked, was to write NOPE across 4 fingers of my "smoking hand." You all give such helpful advice. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I hope to be able to help others as you have helped me. Yes, my wife is still smoking, partly by design. We did not do well trying it together in the past. She needs to take things at her own pace, and I will be better able to support and help with the kids, etc... when it's her turn. Hey ya doinit4mygirls, Nice to see you again. It's also good to see you coming to the SSC to post when the stress level gets above your chin. You are a smart guy. Your madhouse day reminds me of the old commercial "Calgon take me away.' I think you need a pat on the back for getting through this day and you need a break. Hopefully this pc break did the trick. You may already feel better. Just putting my frustrations in writing usually helps me. One thing I know for sure, smoking will not HELP you in any way. It doesn't relieve stress and if you are thinking it will you are experiencing 'junkie thinking.' All a death stick is going to do is feed the addiction. We are addicts and stress is generally the excuse to have just one. Remember you can't have just one. One is never enough. But, because we are addicts...time is our friend. Stay focused on why you quit, breath slow, go for a walk and DO NOT forget to reward yourself. We tell you to reward yourself because it will make your quit EASIER. What have you done for yourself lately? Hang tough! ~all the best (no matter WHAT just don't smoke) N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 170 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,761 Amount Saved: $850 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 5 Mins: 26 Seconds: 50

Doinit4mygirls, I love your name. Keep reminding yourself of that when you're going through withdrawals/recovery. Unfortunately, we smoked for many years... it's going to take more than 8 days to undo everything you did to your body. It takes a while to retrain our brains, but it WILL get better! I'm sorry to hear that your wife is still smoking. Hopefully she will quit one day as well, but the best way you can get her to do that is to just be a positive example and keep your quit. This is your quit, not hers, and while that's not easy, it's the way it MUST be. I hope, for both of your sakes, that she does quit soon. Just take it minute by minute... and if you have to, milisecond by milisecond... that's the advice of a very wise man here, Yoda (the name says it all, huh!) You can do anything for a milisecond and those miliseconds add up and before you know it, you're well on your way to a successful quit. Yes, the first few weeks are a roller-coaster ride and it's not a fun ride either, but it sure is worth it when it's all said and done. Don't give up! Just keep going. If sheer determination is what's keeping you going, then keep using that as long as you can. Try to distract yourself whenever a crave hits. And make sure you reward yourself. Did you reward yourself for one week yet? If not, go do that! Do something fantastic for yourself! You're doing the best thing you can possibly do for yourself, so be kind to your body while it's making this huge adjustment. You're doing an awesome job! Just keep it up! Crave the Quit! Step outside into the cold air and take a deeeep breath. Sounds like you have your hands full but you can do this...and you'll be so proud you did. If you were to smoke now, you'd just be disappointed and angry with yourself.. and you sure don't want to start over and do hell week again. Hang tough... we've been there... and we're behind you. "This too shall pass"... it always does :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 369 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,399 Amount Saved: $1317.33 Life Gained: Days: 39 Hrs: 4 Mins: 9 Seconds: 40
