Hi pinkminke
So glad you've found someone with whom you can relate - already.  I also am glad that you've made your way here and agree with the others you will find some great benefits in working the program...it's at your own pace.  However, I found setting aside a specific time to do it was helpful.
I don't think you should hide your depression from your boyfriend.  I dothink the session on relationships might help (it has me) and also to help him be educated on depression.  There are many websites that offer information, education, and suggestions to family/friends of person who have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety.
I can also relate to the stressors of school and it interfereing with education.  I was working on my doctorate when I noticed as someone else did, looking back, it had been building for over a year.  I did take a break, did not go back and complete my doctorate - but I'm in a very different age bracket and other issues (putting a son through law school, death of my parents, etc) changed my perspective on things.  btw, I was a counseling major.  Master's in counseling working on doctorate in counseling.  hmmmm, commone themes (lol, except my age).
I hope you stick around; you'll find great interest and feedback from the participants as you've seen and we all look forward to hearing how you are doing as well as your thoughts, opinions and experiences on what we share.  We value your insight!
Keep on posting.......

Hey Pinkmike,

Get right into it, now that you have more time. The program really helps, I learned a lot through the program. It really did give me a better understanding of cognitive behavioural therapy, let us know if you have any questions!

Hi Pinkminke,

Now sounds like a great time to start working on the program.  Not only will it help you personally but academically as well.  It will give you a good understanding of cognitive behaviour therapy.  Setting a plan for yourself, including rewards will give you a nice little project this summer.

It also sounds like taking a look at the Panic Center (www.paniccenter.net) might be an option.  It may help you address some some of your worried and help you manage anxiety in the future.

You mentioned that you would like to have this straightened out before school starts; what would straightened out look like to you?

Well my exams are finally done and I thought I would feel a sense of relief, no.  I still wake up with anguish and dread.  Instead of my worries subsiding for a while I managed to find new ones and although school is now months away I'm freaking out about next year.  I talked to my doctor about talking to the school counsellors, but she said there is a 500 person long waiting list, so I need to find a new avenue I guess.  I need to get this straightened out before school starts again or I'll have a major break down.  I'm beginning to get back into yoga, so I hope once that becomes a more regular routine I'll feel a little more in control, but I don't know.  My boyfriend and I were looking so forward to finally having free time and relaxing, but I've just been moody and taking it out on him for no reason and I don't want to tell him that I've been upset and crying (for no reason) again.
Hopefully things for you, Noori, are looking a little brighter now that school is finished?!

I'm doing alright.... I have an exam tomorrow and friday but the worst of it has been that I "broke up" with my roommates two night ago, saying I wouldn't live with them next year (fighting with one of them has been very stressful for me this year and I think has significantly impacted my mood) so I am currently summer job-less, house-less for next year and having a hard time focusing on studying.  Despite the stressors and upsets, I'm thinking rather clearly actually and have managed to not miss a workout (which REALLY helps me) and even though I'm upset I feel like I can still use my brain (depression makes me think super sloowwwllyy...) so the fact that I've retained my ability to form coherent thought makes me wonder if despite everything I'm actually getting better....... Im not sure yet.... i still feel pretty ****ty lol
The new counsellor is great, I like him a lot more than the original one so I have another appointment on thursday and hopefully that goes well.
I think at this point I've just tried to stop thinking about everything and anything (good or bad) and get through exams.  I'll try to figure it out after when I've had a bit of a break.
Hope you've had some good days!

Hi Noori,
I have my first exam this coming Friday but I have a big paper due Monday which is really stressing me out!  I have a lot of anxiety in the mornings and kind of waste away the day until 1 or 2ish because I can't get myself together enough to focus.  Its awful but I'm just finishing the paper to get it done, I know it's not my best effort but I can't concentrate. I'm hoping that once the paper is handed in and off my back I'll feel a little better, but who knows, with the way I've been feeling lately it seems like this will never go away.  I do, however, have an appointment with my Dr next week so that gives me hope...
How have you been doing?  Did you exams start?

Keep me posted :)

Technically I don't have a major, I'm in an arts and science degree so I have two minors, one in the arts (psyc) and one in the sciences (zoology).  I'm leaning towards all science though because I'm really liking the neuroanatomy and neuroscience components of psyc :)

You guys made me smile.  I was a psych major too (U.C. Santa Cruz).  I really relate so much to both of you and what you're going through.  Noori, what's your major??

I'm too pooped to write tonight, but will check on you both tomorrow.  I'm glad you found each other.
Deb
