Hi, I have been reading at this site and finally decided to share. I have been smoking for over 30 years with numerous failed attempts to quit using every NRT that exists. I am now reading The Easy Way to Quit Smoking..I don't know if I believe that there is any easy way, (considering what I have been through in the past). What I get from this book, basically, is to have a positive attitude. Be happy to be free from the addiction. That is very hard for me to do at times when the "little monster" starts up. I have set my quit date for tomorrow. I believe that having this site to turn to will be another helpful tool in finding freedom from nicotine. I want to be the non smoking "new me".

Hi Mercy and Kita,
My most important reason for quitting is to regain my self confidence and self esteem. I also want to quit so I can feel my emotions again.I am numbed up with nicotine. Being free from this hideous addiction is also one of my important reasons. I am off work for the next week, so I can sleep whenever I feel like it. I just hope that "smoking to relieve boredom cig" does not bother me too much. I look forward to being free.

thanks all,
Yes Lou P, I find that I get very winded when climbing stairs. That never used to happen. Smoking has caused me to become less and less physically active. I am so glad that the asthma has not returned for you. I am looking forward to conversing with all you successful quitters.

Hi all,
Well, I did not start my quit on 5/20. BUT, I did start yesterday. It has been a full 24 hours since I had a puff of nicotine. I am kind of anxious today. I know that "The easy Way" advises against any NRT, but I started crying after about 5 hours of not having nicotine. I could feel myself taking a fast, hard, dive into depression. I just kept repeating to myself how happy I am to be free. I went and got some lower dose nicotine lozenges; 2 mg. I had 3 yesterday. But, I need to find my way to freedom from this drug. I am still getting teary eyed today; but I am okay. I am going to swim, do some errands and get on with my life without those stupid rolled up weeds. I am very thankful that I found this site.

thanks all,
I am hanging in. I am totally weepy? I have been thru this weepy stage in other failed quits. I know that I have to have that "smoking is NOT an option" attitude. I have tortured myself loooonnngggg enough; smoking, not smoking, smoking again...it truly is an endless, vicious cycle if you don't make up your mind to not even have one puff. Otherwise, I will be enslaved for the rest of my life, paying lots of money to make myself sick; physically and mentally with the guilt and worry. I will check in often. Your words of encouragement and advice are so helpful.

Hi,I am a may quitter. I would love to have the support of all you Mayflowers (I got here late, but I loved the name Mayors of quitville also). I am only on day 2. I am doing okay. Just swam some laps and am getting ready to eat some food. I feel weird. That empty, gnawing feeling, somewhere in my stomach or my brain. I can't tell which. But, I am not going to smoke!

thanks dee and lolo,
wow, you have 1 month now lolo. How do you feel? Are you using nrt? And dee, tomorrow is your freedom day! You are already sharing here, so I know that you are well prepared. I am so happy that I am not smoking. Tonite I am going to the neighborhood coffee shop. I usually sat outside (20 feet from the door..state law) with the smokers. Tonite I will sit inside and actually enjoy the entertainment! I will meet new people; another benefit to being a non smoker. I am mentally preparing myself right now. I will not smoke. It will be a mental victory over my nicotine addition. I will be sending out the positive vibes for you tomorrow Dee. We are not giving up anything; we are gaining our freedom.

I did it! I did it; I did not smoke. I even went out and visited with my smoker friends for a while, played a game of cribbage. I didn't stay too long. just enough time to socialize a bit and be uplifted by some music. I saw a 15 year old boy smoking. I said a few things to him about how addictive nicotine is. I know teenagers don't usually listen, but who knows, maybe 10 yrs from now he will remember what I said and quit. Or even better, he will never get hooked. good night..here's to a peaceful smoke free day tomorrow.
