Hello everyone, today is day 2 for me

Hi, I am so glad I found this site. Today is my second day smoke free! I have smoked for about 10 years, have tried to quit a couple of time before. I have been planning this for about a month, set my quit day, bought some patches, and here I am. I came online looking for ANYTHING that would help me get through this. I would love to smoke right this minute, but last night ( day 1) I wanted a smoke so bad I could have ate one if I had it! (but I didn't) Funny thing I have noticed is that I can already actually smell an ashtray now. My husband used to complain about the smell, but I couldn't really smell it. Well, thanks for reading my post. I will probably be posting more as I try to get through this. I CAN and WILL do this, my 3 kids are a big motivator for me and I just keep trying to focus on them. Congrats and good luck to everyone else!

Hello everyone, today is day 2 for me

Thank You all, This website is so great. It feels good to find people who have done this successfully and offer support from others. Oddly enough even though I have been smoking very heavily for some time, I didn't really share it with alot of people, so there aren't alot of people around me I talk to about this. My husband is great, and very supportive, but not a smoker, so it is hard for him to really grasp the magnitude of what this feels like for me. I am working through all the great tools here on the site. I love the idea of a reward system as Free suggested and the extra water intake is helping and must be good for my body anyway. I know when to expect some of my strongest cravings. The mornings when I first wake up, 30 mins. or so before the others, and I used to just sit back with my coffee and smoke. Now I am trying to walk, stretch and just get moving a little. I think it would be great if I could not only loose a nasty habit, but replace it with a healthy one. I realize some of my mistakes with a couple of past attempts to quit like not riding my home completely of cigarettes, trying to speed through the steps to save money, etc. So I don't intend to do make again. I am feeling pretty fair at the moment but I sure do crave that drawl/inhaling feeling. It is good to know alot of the physical symptoms will improve soon. I am just trying to stay busy (boy is my house getting clean today) :) Thanks everyone! Hello everyone, today is day 2 for me

Thanks everyone! You guys are so supportive. Today is tough to say the least, tougher than yesterday. I am sitting here with a straw between my fingers (thanks for that suggestion) I am doing the deep breathing techniques too, but I SO crave a cigarette. I can do this, I know I can, but today is SO hard. I am just pissed off in general, and my scalp has this odd sensation, not hurting just a tingling feeling. grrrr What about those fake cigarette things like ENDIT and some of the others, (no nicotine, i am already using the patches)? Has anyone tried those? question about what is happeneing to me

Hey everyone, I am now at day 5. A very very rough few days, but I haven't smoked. Yipey for me! I had a 2 pack a day habit for years. I am using 21 mg patches. My question is this. The desire to smoke is SO SO overwhelming. I crave it SO badly. But if I am using the patches, is it the process of smoking, feelings, habit etc, or is it the nicotine my body wants? If I am using the patches, am I truely experiencing nicotine withdrawl to a certain extent or is it mental? I sure do feel alot of physical symptoms. I am just trying to understand it better. Thanks! nicotineless inhalers

Has anyone used these products such as Endit? They supposedly mimic the feelings/ senstation of smoking, but without the nicotine or harmfull chemicals? Just wondering if they would help more than carrying this straw around or if they aren't healthy. question about what is happeneing to me

Thanks Missy, Marie and Casey, That's exactly the perspective I was looking for. I wondered how the nicotine was comparring to my regular smoking, and how much of this was my mental addiction. I do definetely think these patches help to take the edge off. I can't think in the long term at this point, it is to overwhelming. I am just thinking "I will not smoke right now". I am considering a doctors visit as I haven't had a check-up in a while anyway. I plan on discussing these things with her too. But I am determined! This time will be a winner. I will not give up, as So many others here aren't giving in. This place is great! 1 week for me tommorrow

Thanks guys One day I'll proudly show off my high stats like so many of you guys have. You all are doing a great job! I feel strong and determined this time, much more so than past failed attempts. The cravings are terrible, but I will not keep doing that to myself or my family. I watched my father die of lung cancer after decades of smoking. I don't want that for my own kids, or anyone elses for that matter. You all are very inspiring! help for a friend

I have a friend who has said that since I am quiting, he feels inspired to try to quit again himself. He is an older man, who has smoked for may years, already had one heart attack and has a pacemaker currently. he is a dear friend and nothing who please me more than to see him quit for good, and it is a motivator to me knowing that he is watching me to see how this quit goes for me. My question is about his plan for quiting. Rather than try NRT or speak to his doctor, he plans are to limiting himself smoking, and step himself down, such as 16 cigs 1 week, 14 cigs week 2, 12 cigs week 3 etc etc until he is no longer smoking. Myself, I think I couldn't do that as I am not that disciplined. Has anyone here successfully tried this type of approach? Thanks!
