50 Days for Pete - Awesome

Yeah! Pete! 50 day's is great! Keep it going! Doesn't feel great to be a quitter! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 43 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 258 Amount Saved: $58.05 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 14 Mins: 53 Seconds: 18

Please, feedback.

Paranoid, Good job on not giving into "friends" that are really giving you some peer presure. Isn't it amazing that even adults will resort to elementary behaviors when they want to feel better about a bad choice they are making. Your friends are trying to make themselves feel better. Smoking for them will NOT make you feel better. You get to be the bigger quitter and lead the way. Great job. As for your health - I am 35 and always concerned about mine. But you have to let that go - stress can do just as much damage. Think about healthy ways you can live. Don't worry about coughing out junk for the first few days - go to the doctor and ask him/her to check you out. Run the tests and don't stress about it. When you are dwelling on "death", think about all the good things about life and what things you enjoy. Go for a walk, go to church, go and get a healthy snack, read a book, bike . . . whatever floats your boat. Usually when you are focused on the negitive, you can't see the light around you. If you think about it, some of your health is already restoring. Walking a block may be getting easier. :) See you are getting healthier. My mother battled cancer for 6 years and 7 months - now SHE HAD something to worry about! You know, she never looked at the negitive or thought about her "last day". She looked up and looked for a treasure in each day to be revealed to her. She used to go on daily treasure hunts. (Some of these were while in bed after a tough dose of chemo too.) Everyday, she was able to find something. I am glad you have this group. Focus on the good things. Maybe change your screen name to used to be paranoid and mentally picture yourself well. As with all good advice - keep your doctor appointments, but let them tell you what is going on. They went to school a long time to become healers. :) They want to help and make you well. hello

As you see in my name - I was a closet smoker too. Actually a good one. I could hide it since I only smoked with one other person that knew (the hubby). I only smoked at night after my kids went to bed. I think you can hide. That is my reason for telling a few select souls that I needed help with my quit. The hubby is inspired and I am using the lozenge to help me. I smoked for ten years. That is a long time and I needed the help. Chew your gum and don't hide any more. I know I was a closet smoker for a reason. I felt like an idiot smoking while my mother was dying of breast cancer. ARGH! It was hard to watch her suffer for six and a half years. I don't want my kids to go through it and I pray that I am quitting in time to heal myself. Good job being a closet smoker no more! Do get a couple people beside this board to help your journey. My husband helped me the most. He stood with a cig in his hand and we were having an awful time with some family matters and he refused to even let me have a puff. I was annoyed at that moment and went inside and ate my "candy" (my lozenge). I had to thank him after a hour and my desire for a cig had passed. He helped me make it to my one month marker by "not giving in to me." I had asked him to not give me one, no matter how bad it was or how I pleaded. In the heat of our family conflict - he held up his promise and helped me. Now, if only we can get him to quit next - but his quit has to be on his time. Enjoy your breathing! I am sure it is getting easier. 32 Days Impressive

Thanks Riverdale Man! I am very excited. I had one really really really tough day - but got through it without a puff. It is funny the things that trigger you. Sometimes, I find I forget that I smoked and I find the smell repulsive. Then, sometimes I catch a wiff and ohhhhhh, that temptation. But grab the gum and run! My kids are worth way more that a nasty cig! Great job on your quit too!!!! Need to Vent

Healer- I totally understand this one. Weight is my second problem too. I kept up my workout routine and in the first three weeks I didn't lose pound and I had been losing two inches a month up to this date. So - I added an extra workout day and watched the "intake". This week I finally started losing again and 5 lbs shed off me. I think my body was busy healing some other things. Keep walking, you will start back up again with weight loss even while you are in your quit. I think it is something in that first few weeks of the quit (and the Girl Scout Cookies) that triggers a few extra pounds to sneak up on you. Just keep to your plan that helped you lose in the first place. Hang on to your quit of both!!! Yeah I made it!

I am very excited that I am at day 31! I have done it! I am actually looking forward to my one month reward. I had one day that I almost blew it - but my home support network caught me. (Yeah for my hubby!)And to boot - I was on vacation and really could have cheated and I didn't. :) Each day I feel one day closer to better health. I want so bad to reverse the years of damage in one day - but - with all things, I know I have to work to restore my lungs and heart. I will do it! (I am glad it is a good quit day!) KNIGHTS ANG, KIM, BOUBOU... CONGRATS ON THE BIG 50 !!!!!

WOW! 50 is a great number! Go knight and may the rest of us hit that number too. I am sure that all 77 knights (I included myself) will be able to do it by sticking together and to the plan. (Sorry I was scarce a couple weeks - I was on vacation.) migraines-not what you think

Meg- I suffer horribly smoking or not smoking with migraines. I take depacote. While in my late twenties, they started getting more frequent - now in my thirties I was up to 17 migraines a month before I had the full work up of MRI's and CAT Scans. There was nothing wrong with me. The Depacote has helped. I tried going off of it - but my body still has them. One of the things my neurologist talked to me about is that your migraine can run on a roller coster type curve - you go through periods of more migraines than less migraines. Blood pressure is also a huge trigger for migraines. If your body is readjusting and your blood pressure lowering - you may develop migraines. Your body is adjusting. Please do your self a huge favor and talk to your doctor about it. Go to a neurologist and get something to help the pain. They are enough to drive you crazy and the last thing you want is to be discouraged while trying to quit. There are so many medicines and therapies for migraines to try, let your doctor help you through them so that your body can keep healing during the initial months of your quit. It takes time to adjust. Until your appointment, when you feel one coming on, get a huge glass of ice water and a straw, sip enough water and swirl it in your mouth until it starts warming, swallow and sip again. Try to numb your mouth with little sips for 5 - 10 minutes. This can take the intensity of the migraine down. (Some dentist in Canada found this one - I have used it and it helps.) BUT that is just a help - go see your doctor and ask for some releif. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 198 Amount Saved: $44.55 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 18 Mins: 38 Seconds: 18
