Must Be Something In The Air????

I have no idea whats going on but I've seen a lot who are having trouble holding on to their quits. I was struggling just a few weeks ago and really thought I wouldn't make it, but somehow I did. You would think after just watching my friend die from lung cancer, I would never want to smoke again!!! The truth is, smoking is an addiction and no matter how much you try to tell yourself it's insane to light up, sometimes the addiction tries to overpower the mind. Here is what I do know as I approach my 6 month quit. I will always have to fight the urge to smoke; somedays will be easy and some won't, but it doesn't matter because on the hard days I'll be a sponge and soak up all the widsom I can from those who have gone before me and on the good days I'll be supportive of those who are struggling. At the end of the day, I just hope to be smoke free and with all of the support I can get, I know this is doable. I will never take my quit for granted. I know it's very easy to get back into a smoking lifestyle. I am not immune nor is anyone else. I love being smoke free now and am so grateful for all of you here who have helped me get this far. I am so awed by the wonderful compassion, wisdom and yes sometimes hard lines I have gotten from everyone. I take what I need on any given day to get me through. It's worked for me and it will work for you. Don't give up on yourself. You're worth it. Stay safe and smoke free. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 173 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,935 Amount Saved: $1211 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 14 Mins: 0 Seconds: 11

Today I Don't Smoke

Just for today I do not smoke. I have taken back my life and now am in control of what I choose to do. As I get further along in my quit I'm amazed at how I could have gone 35 years with smoking all of those cigs. Remember, I was the one who always said I never even thought of quitting and was such an advocate of smoker's rights. I will never take my quit for granted or think I'm immune to the cravings. I know a craving can hit you from nowhere and take you by surprise. Just a few weeks ago I was almost in tears I wanted a cig so bad. This addiction makes me angry. I hope I always stay angry with it so I never lose focus. When people come in to the salon, I can smell those who are smokers right away. To think that was me for the last 35 years. I hope everyone here is fine and keeping their quits. Hang in there and let nothing make you light up again. We can and are doing this. Just for today, do not smoke.!!!!! This is my mantra and I use it everyday. just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day Vicki ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 166 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,655 Amount Saved: $1162 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 15 Mins: 7 Seconds: 43

:-(...feeling down

Hey Ang Here is what I know about feeling down. It's temporary and soon you will feel different. Right now you may be in the pits, but I assure you that this will pass. Life isn't always about being nice and rosy. Sometimes, life can be rough and hard, but it will change. I've had many many downs in my life and I'm sure I'll have more, but I've also had moments of happiness and success. I remember many many yrs. ago thinking that my life was over and I could never be happy again. Well out of that experience I went on to a different life and was given things I could never have imagined. At that one moment I truly believed my life was awful, but only by going through that was I able to appreciate what was to come. You are doing a great job in your quit and you are wise enough to see that you won't accomplish anything by lighting up. You are inspiring others in their desire to keep their quit. Don't give up on yourself. We here at this site will never give up on YOU. Stay safe and take a big hug from me. YES I'm still alive and smoke free

Thanks all for the words of welcome. It is so good to see fimiliar names and to see all the new ones who have come on board. My choice to live a smoke free life has been such a boost to my morale. No, it hasn't always been easy and sometimes just downright hard, but I'm here to tell you that it is worth it. The "part time" job I got back in February is going great and my family is doing fine. Take care and I promise to check in more often. YES I'm still alive and smoke free

Please forgive me for being so long in coming in here and posting. As you can see, I was an avid poster and this site was my lifeline. I became so focused on this site and all the good folks who helped me keep my quit that I almost became obsessive about it. I will check in from time to time and I do encourage all of you who are new in your quits to stay close to this forum for help. I will not even try and name names of those here who helped me, but you know who you are. Keep up your resolve to change your life and to take back control. You can and will do it. As always vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 159 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,373 Amount Saved: $1113 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 16 Mins: 4 Seconds: 21

I'm still alive as well

Hey Gaby I had the same sort of craving to smoke about a month ago and it really was the worse craving I've had so far. I went as far as to think about going to buy just "one pack", just to get me through the craving. I have to tell you that "one pack" thought scared me to death. I couldn't believe that I'd gone this far just to give in. It finally did pass but it was about 3 days of pure hell and craving unlike any I'd had since my quit. Don't know why it hit me so hard or why it's doing it to you, but I'm sure we're not alone in this. Hang in there and remember that it will pass. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day ps-good to see you again My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 160 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,427 Amount Saved: $1120 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 20 Mins: 29 Seconds: 43
