Question about Subliminal Messages

I don't know if they work or not....I've just started listening to them.  Can't hurt though.  The one for anxiety is really nice.  It's just the sounds of rain and wind chimes.  You don't hear the subliminal messages.  I have a program that I use to convert YouTube videos into MP3s and then put them on my iPod and usually listen to them when I'm trying to go to sleep.

Heart issues or Not

I've been working in the cardiology field for 9 years...and hate murmurs.  I can identify if someone has a murmur (if it's really obvious) or not....but can't identify the murmur very well (ie Aortic Stenosis, MVP, etc.).  Luckily, for my job, I only have to determine if someone has a murmur or not....then I get the doctor (or echo tech) to determine what type it is.

Constant Lightheadedness?

I had a similar situation back in December.  It came on suddenly one day, and lasted for probably 3 months.  It's still not 100% gone, but I'm getting back to normal as far as that goes.  Saw an ENT and a neurologist, and all tests were fine.  The onset of this dizziness brought back my anxiety and panic attacks.  The prevailing theory is that my dizziness was a symptom of my anxiety, but I'm not so sure, as that wasn't really one of the symptoms I had when I first started having problems with anxiety 10 years ago.

Anyway....I'm back on meds, and the dizziness has gotten much better.  Still having problems with anxiety....but other bodily symptoms are giving me trouble and causing anxiety....but that's a story for another day.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

Stress Relievers

I find body scan meditations and yoga helpful for stress management and relaxation.

Having a very rough few days

Things haven't been going so well lately.  A couple of days ago I started feeling symptoms that are not typical of my panic attacks....and it has sent me reeling.  I felt so weird on Thursday...and it sent my panic into overdrive.  Yesterday (Friday) wasn't too bad....but today (Saturday) is horrible.  I have horrible chest tightness/heart burn and it's totally freaking me out.  I know in my head that this is most likely part of my anxiety.....but I can't convince my heart that that's the case.....and that's the only place it matters.  I've been sitting here in the other room, crying for about 2 hours....while the rest of my family/friends are outside enjoying the nice weather.

I feel like such an idiot.  I can't seem to get over this stupid anxiety and depression.  However....tomorrow is another day...and maybe a good night's sleep will help.

Residential Treatment centres?

When I had my recent "breakdown" in January 2014, I called my parents and my mother came and stayed at my place (2 1/2 hrs away) for 2 weeks, and I'm 34 years old!!  I'm lucky because her job allows her to work from home when she wants/if necessary, so it worked out well.  I was sitting in my doctors office bawling my eyes out when my mom arrived, and she came with me to a couple other appointments over the next week.  Yes, I was the one doing the talking/explaining, but having someone there, even for silent support, helped me so much.  I wasn't admitted to the hospital during this time (although there were times I thought it would be easier, so someone else could make all the decisions).

Do you have any friends or other family members who could go with you to your appointment(s)?  Talk honestly to your doctor about your concerns/fears, and decide what is best for you.

Safe Harbours

I find a nice, quite, dark  place to sit alone, as usually my stress and/or anxiety come from dealing with people at work.  I either listen to guided meditations, relaxing sounds (rain, waves, campfires, etc.) or just sit in silence.  I also mindfully concentrate on my breathing.....not changing it....but just concentrating on it flowing into and out of my nose and abdomen.

If I'm feeling agitated or really anxious, and can't relax enough by sitting quietly, I'll do yoga or go for a casual walk.

Progress

My anxiety revolves around the heart/chest pain.  I work in the cardiology lab so know why too much about coronary artery disease (CAD - blocked arteries in the heart).  I know the risk factors and signs and symptoms of CAD and heart attacks.  The problem is, every time I have symptoms of chest pain (which I have quite often), I'm convinced I have CAD....even though I know the odds of that are low.  I do have risk factors for CAD (borderline diabetes (treated), borderline high cholesterol, big time family history, overweight (although I've lost 33 lbs in the last year).  My symptoms are atypical of CAD (chest pain is there any/all the time, regardless of whether I'm exerting myself or not and lasts for hours), and I had a normal nuclear stress test back in December 2013 (which is 90% effective at determining if someone has CAD).  I've also done regular stress tests on myself over the last few months which have been fine.....but I still can't convince myself that I'm fine.

I see plenty of people who get chest pain for a few seconds, and panic and go to the hospital.  I also see the people who are in denial, have major heart attacks at home and don't seek medical attention.

When I feel fine (like yesterday afternoon) my mood and anxiety are normal.  When I feel unwell (like today) I'm completely the opposite.  I just want to feel well and normal and get my life back on track.
