at last

Sunny,
I am so happy to hear that you finally got threw to your Dr's and got your surgeries scheduled.  I know your eye problems and the waiting to hear from them caused you a lot of pain and anxiety.  Maybe you will be able to relax a little now and have a nice visit with the grandkids.  Take care.

Anxiety at Night

Aaron,

Welcome to the program and support group.  As for the anxiety and panic at night.  Finding a distraction has helped me when I awake in the night with panic.  I have posted here on the site as a distraction.  You can also use the blog feature here on the site.  The advantage of bloging is that you can delete your blog later if you want to.  That way you have more control over what stays in cyber space forever and what doesn't.  Just a idea for you to consider.  The second thing I do is try to control how much negative and upsetting stimulus I am seeing and hearing.  Such as news on the TV and Online.  What programs I watch or dvd's I watch.  This helps me with the nighttime panic, meaning waking up in a panic.  Of course sometimes I don't know that something I am seeing or hearing is going to trigger a night time anxiety/panic attack and in that case, when I wake up in a panic, I look for a distraction till the panic passes and I get grounded again.  Reading does help me calm down and takes my mind off of things if I am just to wound up and am having trouble relaxing and falling asleep. You mentioned that you couldn't go out for a run in the middle of the night.  Maybe a stationary exercise bike or treadmill could be used as a aternative.  I hope one of these strategys helps you.

Your top 3 - Summer Hobbies

I have been thinking about summer hobbies and decided to add a new one this year.  I grow vegetables every summer and they are doing beautifully.  So I was wondering now, what do next.  I have been trying out some creative cooking with all my new vegetables that I have grown.  I have also given a lot of vegetables away.  I have decided to take up reading again, actual hold in your hand books, that you can curl up with and read.  Not e books online.  Real paper books with a cover.  I have been reading a novel all weekend.  I have fallen in love all over again with reading.  This is going to be my main hobby for the rest of this summer.

Update

Davit,
I like this idea of focusing on one emotion at a time and not letting a previous event or emotion spoil the whole day. You have a very good therapist.  Thanks for sharing this info.  I am sure looking at it this way will help me also.  Those emotions do get the best of me when there's to many going on at the same time.  It's good to hear you are having happy days again. Keep up that positive attitude.  Talk to you later.

How´s the summer been?

So far my summer has been pretty mellow.  I think I am making some progress slowly but surely.  One thing I have noticed is that I can now relax my mind enough  to do some recreational reading.  This is something I have not been able to do in a very long time.  The only problem is the book I chose is a thriller called The Panic Zone, lol  lol and I did have nightmares after reading it a couple of nights ago and woke up in a panic.  I am going to finish reading it though because I am enjoying this book.
To make a long story short this summer is different than past summers.  This summer I am learning to let myself relax which is making it easier for me to focus on reading and maybe some sewing etc. etc.

Hello Everyone

Welcome peace4all,

You have come to the right place and after you start reading and working the program you will start to feel better I am sure of it.  You have taken the first big step and started the program. Which is a very positive thought. You have already replaced a negative thought with a positive thought.   Hang in there it really does get better.

Negative Core Beliefs - Part II

I am finding negative core beliefs are a real problem for me and they are really hard to face and deal with.  I have so many and just thinking about them can cause a lot of anxiety.  I never realized before that they are at the heart of my problems.  I am not quite sure how to approach them without causing myself a lot of anxiety/panic and worst of all depression even tho the are already giving me a lot of grief.  I do think they are something I need to face and challenge and then bury them once and for all so that I can move forward with my life in positive way. I am just not sure how to do that??  The fear of facing my demons can be paralyzing!

Negative Core Beliefs - Part II

Davit,
Thanks for the input.

I agree the best way to deal with them is one at a time as they come up.  Now that I am aware of them it gives me a better understanding of myself and my reaction to certain situations.  So if  I think about it that way than I can challenge these  negative core beliefs and not let them spoil my life. We all have negative and positive core beliefs and I will try to concentrate on holding on to the positive ones and discarding the negative one for now.  I am also going to try to challenge the negative ones when possible with exposure therapy. This should help with my feeling of self worth and improve my self esteem. Figuring out who you are and how you got there and making changes where necessary does take time and effort. I only wish
I had started working on it when I was a little younger.  Even so I think it all has become much clearer to me as I have gotten older.  I now have the time to reflect on my life that I didn't have when I was younger.  I think this is something we do as we get older.

Your friend,

Introduction... I like long walks on the beach and I might be crazy :)

Hello lzzy,

Welcome to the program and support group.  Working the program and posting and reading posts should help you get a better understanding of what your normal is. What ever that is I am not sure.  I wanted to let you know I also have a problem with the phone. I keep my house phone shut off most of the time and use my cell phone for making calls. I make phone calls only when I have to.  As for the Dr. I haven't called them in over a year.  It good you brought this up I wonder how many others here have problems with the phone?
