Hi all
Using patches, I have now been smoke free for four days. Cravings are diminishing and I feel pretty strong in that regard but I do have to work and I CAN NOT concentrate on even basic tasks!! I work at home and the need for self motivation at work makes this even more of a problem (never thought I'd want a boss hanging over my shoulder to "inspire" me but I could do with one right now!).
Any thoughts on improving concentration...? I have tried to give it some time and do other things (my house is now incredibly clean), be gentle with myself, etc. but I have a deadline now and am starting to stress (nope, don't need work stress!) about actually getting work done.
Any creative ideas?

Thanks Ed... I certainly have been being kind to myself (took the last three days off, really!). But I do have a deadline on Tuesday and need to get work done. I am not terribly stressed yet but am getting increasingly worried at my inability to focus on the work I need to get done.
I was hoping someone had a good tip on regaining focus during the first few weeks of quitting. Do any herbals help? Ginko or the like? I've never needed those sorts of remedies but now might be in need.

Strangely enough, I had a massage today which seemed to do the trick! Normally one thinks of a massage as relaxing but I specifically asked her for a massage to stimulate me and help with my creativity/focus and it seems to have brought me back from the land of the faeries...

Thanks all... I seem to have come through this particular issue now and am busy working away on my project stuff now. Feel fine again and can't even really recall what that feeling was like -- except I wasn't expecting it and it was a full on lack of concentration!! Couldn't read a book or do anything that needed a bit of focus. A weird problem for me as I am usually very focused.
Now if only I could stop dreaming of smoking...! Sigh.

Thanks for bumping this up... I had junkie thoughts today and wasn't even craving a cigarette!!! I was talking to a friend about how well I was feeling after just a few weeks and started thinking "hey, the body bounces back quickly, eh...? I could smoke for longer, quit later and the body would recoup fast".
Evil demon is right.

banana... yes, I've noticed the allergy thing. I was out cleaning up my wild garden today and all the dead leaves (it's autumn here) plus pollen and so forth sent me into a complete allergy attack. Coughing and sneezing madly.
I suppose it makes sense if your mucous production decreases when quitting -- all that mucous would have trapped allergens too.
On the flip slide, I had a bad cold before I quit that I couldn't shake... everyone had this cold but mine did linger longer than most. Really raspy cough, stuffed sinues etc. Withing a few days of quitting, I shook it. Finally!

Congrats on day 3 Nilbey... I was just like you and totally spaced. I couldn't concentrate on anything until about day 4 or 5. A massage really helped me, oddly enough!

What a riot...thanks for the laugh (and it's mostly at myself as you have described exactly what is happening to me at the moment!). Fine for the first few weeks... this week, though, I have been plagued with what a friend terms "boy farts".
This too shall pass, I assume!

Hi Colbert
While I don't have the headache and I am not really angry, I am bone tired a lot and was not prepared for this either. I am just going with it for now as I would rather be a non smoker than have my previous sleeping pattern back (even though I do miss only needing 7 hours a night when I now *need* 9+...). I figure I'll see where I'm at at 4 weeks or so and then get tough with the sleep/exercise/eating schedule. For now I am just focusing on not smoking. The rest I can catch up with later.

Hi Faith
My local store is half a block away so believe me... I know the "store temptation"!! Doing deals with yourself if a good ploy, like unhooked says. For me, I made a deal that if I wanted to buy ciggies, it had to be after 9pm when the local store was closed. Then... well, I'd have to hoof it down to the 7/11. For that, I'd need to really want one (I don't have a car and it's winter here... a good 20 minute walk in the cold rain?). Being lazy has succeeded in trumping craving so far!
By the time you come up with a good and complicated deal, the craving is usually gone anyhow.
