Is there anyone else out there that feels they can't handle the news or any negative information in general? It's never been this bad for me before... Everywhere I turn it seems there are scary and disturbing stories on TV, in newspapers, magazines, on the radio, on the internet, or by word of mouth (ex "Did you hear about...?"). Hearing about fatal car crashes on nearby roads, someone I know of dying, a scary health stories, etc just about have me living with anxiety every minute. I've tried to limit these sources, but it's impossible to not hear things.
Anyone in the same boat?
I can relate. Do you suffer from agoraphobia? (I do, and have similar issues). Panic disorder and agoraphobia are real even if others can't see it, and most likely the reasons you're finding things difficult.
I'm not sure if it's ok to do this but I want to type out a quote in a book of mine "Freedom From Fear" by Howard Liebgold, M.D. about the fear of choking. He is a psychiatrist and pain management specialist and an expert on phobias. Mods I understand if you need to remove this if it goes against any rules...
"Indeed, unless you suppress your cough reflex with an inordinate amount of alcohol and then ingest an unchewed piece of meat 2 x 3 inches you cannot choke to death."
He then explains in his book why that is the case. It's not that easy. That coughing reflex is very powerful. Hopefully this brings a peace of mind to you.
