Hi Steveo88,
We learn from our mistakes, well most of the time we do. Sometimes it takes a little longer.  Do you know what the trigger was this time and can you prepare to fight it off the next time? Keep plugging away, one of these times you're going to do it!
Stay strong!

Another slip!!! 5 days in this time. Putting on a patch in an hour. Back to it. I will crack it this time. I'm starting to feel the effects of smoking for 40 odd years. I want to set an example to my 4 year old. Getting short of breath when I walk up hill, and I love walking and hiking. Gonna buy a stupidly expensive tent and boots with the money I save!!!!!

Hi Steveo88,
Sorry to hear about the slip, but glad to hear that you're not giving up.  Old habits ARE hard to break.  It's also good to hear that the 3 days you were a non-smoker were not as bad as you thought they would be. Sounds like you might be able to do this after all. Keep that can do attitude with you at all times, and try to stay busy.
Stay strong.

All went well for 3 days. Then on day 4 I had a smoke at at a BBQ. Just did it. Seemed to not think, just total habit. Getting back on the horse tomorrow. I know I can do 3 days, and they were not as bad as I expected. I'm looking forward to it. Got so much done, just keeping busy.  The only odd thing is I drank loads of apple juice, which I don't really like!.

Just look at all the "FREE" time you have on your hands now that you've quit smoking!  Hope your son doesn't mind all the extra time you'll be spending with him now. You know how kids can be sometimes. LOL
I used the patch too to help me kick the habit too. It worked for me, it took care of the physical part of the quit and let me work on the mental part. You smoked for 5 years longer than me so I know you're ecstatic with the feelings you're starting to get....being a quitter! Kind of makes you get goose bumps doesn't it?  Nothing better than that feeling of self accomplishment. It only gets better too. Keep your guard up and watch out for those triggers.
Stay strong.

Thanks for the kind words. Been smoking for 42 years. Started at 10 years old. 1977!!. This time I'm on patches, and they seem to work. Almost done the 1st day and feel OK. Lots of beach time and outdoor fun with my son. I feel better than I thought I would. Quite pleased with myself! Lol.

Hi Steveo88,
It doesn't matter how many times you have tried before, what matters is that you keep trying....until you WIN! Like Can not stop me said, you CAN do this.
It's good to hear that you've quit drinking already, that's a BIG trigger for a smoker trying to quit. That cough can be a little scary at times, wondering if somethings going on inside you...related to smoking.  Just a heads up, if you do succeed in quitting, your cough will get a little worse at the beginning of your quit, but it will subside in time as your body starts the healing process.
How long have you been a smoker? Are you going to quit cold turkey or use replacement therapy?
Stay strong and watch the triggers.

Tomorrow I'm quitting smoking. Given up alcohol for a week already and feel better. I'm looking forward to not smoking any more. Maybe it will stop the cough I get at night in bed! Hope it will. This is attempt number???. So many I can't recall. Over 20. But, this is the do or die quit.
