Lungerkrebs 45, you need to set some priorities. While you are early in your quit, you will probably have to stay away from drinking. Staying away won't mean that you don't love yourself; it means you love yourself enough to decide to live longer so that you'd have more time for your friends later. Your quit has to have priority. SLIP=Smobriety Lost Its Priority. Think.. think... think... If you think about why want to smoke before lighting up you probably won't. And breathe. Breathe and think. Breathe and think.

Hi Lungenkrebs45,

You smoked, now you don't & you WILL learn how to relax again.
The Drinking / socialising / smoking thing however.........Socialising around other smokers is a big no no when you are quitting, it just goes without saying. Does a recovering alcoholic go to the pub - i think not !

You will need to avoid temptation for a while, at least until you feel more confident that is.

Have a think about this for a moment.....
Smokers are smokers, it's what they do, it's what their life is all about cos they are consumed by it. You however don't smoke any more, your life is not consumed by smoking, what you gonna do with yourself ?

Answer...if you are going to have children you will spending ALOT of quality fun time with them.

You are only human, be proud of yourself cos you are doing great.

Hi Lungen,

Astrofan did a great job of highlighting the "do's and don't's" so please do heed the advice!

You have recognized 2 triggers - smoking friends, and alcohol. While you can't ask your friends not to smoke around you, you can certainly limit your exposure to their company if it weakens your resolve to stay quit. As for the alcohol...............well you must realize by now that you may have to abstain from this for a little while until you are more comfortable in your quit.

Reset your quitmeter and jump back on the horse. We are all cheering you on and your slip will prove to be a great learning experience for you.

Thank you for your honesty and determination - now let's get this job done!!

i think a lot of us understand , we have felt your pain before.
here are a few things to remember , alcohol will tend to let down your defense mechanisms. so we have to make a choice , either give up the drinks for a while , or accept that it will just make it a little tougher. that's what i did but i carried pretzel sticks with me. when i had a beer i whipped out a long pretzel stick to chew on , it helped a lot. it's a good substitute.
next i might suggest , don't abandon your friends , but don't abandon your "quit" either.if you find it hard to resist smoking tell them you have to go , AND DO IT , GO !it will get easier for you to stay longer as time goes on.
you've already proven that you want to quit , and that you can quit.
god bless you , you be a huge success !

ok, so ,

I  have so failed the last Friday (a week ago), I smoked because I went out, with friend, some are smokers, and with my favourite drinks belong my favourite cigs.

Ok. Big mistake, because it so “fed the animal” on the next day I woke up and smoked, one hour after I was smoking and on and on and on…

Well no nice at all.

Still step by step, day after day it reduces. Now I don’t need any a t the moment. The same resolution of becoming a non-smoker it there.

Oh Tabbyh, I should have so listened to you…but, I love my friends...I cannot say no and stay at home…

I need to find a way to not smoke in company of smokers…they are around me anyway…

Thanks so much

Hi Lungenkrebs45!

Welcome to the SSC site and congratulations on taking the first step towards kicking the habit!
I'd encourage you to set up your quit meter in order to keep you motivated and easily see the progress you are making.
You will be going through several changes in the next few weeks as your body is going to be adjusting to life without smoke.
Write your reasons down and keep them close to you.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. Everyone is very supportive here and help you with anything you are going through.

I agree with what Tabbyh suggested. And when the craves hit remember your words.
 stopped because:
1) I was starting to get shortness of breath,
2) I am 30, and can expect to have lung cancer in the next 15 year
3) sorry, but smoking is really useless,
4) has had not taste at all for me the last months,
5) Main issue, smoking , I think, reduces the chances of getting pregnant…
