good morning Cowgirlnlace:  Congratulations!  happy to read your first day wasn't as traumatic as you thought it might be.  all that anticipatory anxiety can take a hike!  Things going round and round your head are the worse.  Now you've successfully driven to work and had a good day.  Definitely a couple of steps forward.  Keep the faith and keep believing.  And as Davit says, use distraction when you have to.  I used to go to the ladies' room to take some deep breaths, sip some cold water, take a few moments to get grounded if I felt anxious.

Good for you.

You mention being worried about a panic attack happening. (so it probably will)
Okay, it is going to be embarrassing but it won't kill you. Instead tell us how you are going to deal with it. Where is your escape. (distractions) Water cooler, washroom. Song to concentrate on. Window to look out. Counting. These are neither negative or positive they are just what they are, distractions to give you a break. Panic is normal, attacks are not. The distractions help to keep the attack at bay. Like valium without the side effects.
Think about anything but the attack. Think about why you are doing this job, think about your kids. Think about what you are going to make for supper, anything but an attack. Make the attack harder to get to you. In time you will condition to them being not as bad as you have let them be. In time they will become pretty harmless. More nuisance than anything.

Hi Cowgirlnlace:  Thinking of you on your first day tomorrow and saying a prayer you'll do just great.  A new job is stressful for anyone with or without anxiety disorder.  A few nerves is perfectly normal - it's just excitement at a new start, new people and routine.  Let us know how it goes.

Hi cowgirl,

Sorry to hear that you had those very bizarre experiences while preparing for your new job next week.
There have been various neuropsychiatric side effects reported with Chantix, although what you have described seems to be unique.
*Be sure to consult your doctor regarding the side effects you're experiencing with Chantix and ask him/her about their recommendation on taking this medication.
Your doctor can then guide you in the right direction with additional help on quitting smoking, and we are here to support you through the process.
Try your best to be present and take one moment at a time on Monday.
Let us know how day 1 goes of your new job - we'll be thinking of you!
