Way to go Cleo! I know you can make it to the
end of the pier, and when you do close your eyes and breath in the
air and listen to the water and tell yourself  an exposure well done!!!!
all my best.

Hi,
Yes Samatha I used the steps given in this program..not perfectly, but I set my goal for each day, and again for next Tues.
I must be honest, although I feel good about going all the way to the end, I still have my doubts that I will do it again...I  am using my Challenging those pesky negative thoughts, along with "I did it 3 times, I can do it again.".Type of thinking.
Thanks everyone for your support.
Teebs,
A while ago when I had to turn around I beat myself up about it, convincing myself that I would never be cured,  thinking I can't do it., I never will....etc., all negative thoughts.  That was my problem with every phobia I have. I gave into it..it just seemed too hard to fight the fear.. I now believe I can win the battle, using the coping skills...changing my "mind chatter" from negative to positive. Oh, and everyday I set aside a few minutes, sit and think about all the wonderful things in my life.  I  have learnt  how to replace  those awful negative thoughts with positive ones such as..."ok, I didn't accomplish it this time, but I'm not giving up, I'll try again ..practice makes perfect." Go easy on yourself. That's positive. Getting mad at yourself is negative. I see that its all about that with me. Maybe thats the same as you? We have to relearn how not to be a perfectionist I guess.
Sunny,
My dreams are so bizarre, and even when I wake up and return to sleep the same one comes back..the other night I kept dreaming of this little baby in a pink sleeper, sweet thing...I told Hubby about it and he says...did she have floopy ears? (like Cleo)I laughed...he just gets over things so easy...that's what I want to be able to do. Those Starfish were really cool. Maybe if they are still there next time I'll get a pic.

Wow that was a long one!

Thank you for sharing your success story Cleo! Did you use an exposure plan to help you conquer the wharf? What did you learn from this success story?

Hey Cleo:  Way to go!  I know you'll make it to the end by yourself.  Remember we are holding your hand and are there with you.  I wanna see those purple starfish too!  Darn, wish I could go with you.
Re: vivid dreams, I have those now too.  I think they are neat.  Mind you, they're not nightmares, just very colourful dreams.  Hope you feel more comfortable with them soon.  Imagine the stories you could make up with dreamscapes as the material.  Some authors have done that.

Cleo,
This is an awesome success, thank you so much for sharing it.  It sounds like you applied the exposure plan perfectly and it worked - that gives me hope! If you don't mind my asking, as someone who is working at challenging my "mind chatter" as we called it in another post, what did you tell yourself on those days you had to turn back without making it all the way? That is one of the hardest times for me, when I don't yet complete the task I set out for myself.
I too look forward to the picture of you out at the end of the pier! It sounds like you have a great supportive husband to help you along and take that photo!

Cleo,  I want to congratulate you on your success with your exposure.  I also want complement you are your determination to stick to it and not give up.  I want to wish you luck on making it all the way to the end of the wharf all by yourself.  I  just know you can do this and look forward to seeing a picture of you out there on the end of the wharf.  The starfish sound so pretty.

I've got a little Success Story to tell...There is this wharf here in town that I was to afraid to walk to the end of..I tried a few times with hubby but always had to turn around before I got too far..its about 3-4 hundred yards..its a long one! For the last few days  I have gone with  hubby, and we have walked it, each time I got less nervous, and the last time I even looked over the railing down at the water, without anxiety.  The only time I felt a bit off was when this group of people came up to us and started talking about the purple starfishes in the water. (They were neat), and I wanted to escape, but I didn't..I just smiled and kept on. On a downside though  my vivid dreams have increased, esp. in the am, just before I get up, which  gets me anxious, so my mornings haven't been great...takes me quite a while to self-talk my way to calmness. Anyhow, next days off I am going to walk the Wharf all by myself. Hubby is going to wait at the Marina, and hopefully get a picture of me way out there. I'll put it on here....wish me luck!
