Hello Birdie and Claire!! ... I am still pretty new to the site too - but so far reading everyone's stories and seeing that I am not alone in this messed up battle - has really helped alot - everyone here is soooo supportive!! I too had these panic attacks when I was younger .... I am 33 now and they seem 10x worse then I remember ... I am not sure what has triggered them this time other then just maybe the stressors of everyday life .... ?? my husband is supportive but he does not really "know" wht I am going thru ... he has a bad habit of telling me it is mind over matter - but so far the mind sems to be doing it's own thing - no matter how bad I don't want it to ... I catch myself arguing with myself over how silly this all seems - but so far I can not "make" it stop .... I do have high hopes with this site though and the wonderful kindred spirts that are here!! = )

Hello! Everyone, I'm new to this group as of today! I just read Claire's message and boy can I relate! I too have had a difficult time with panic in the past. About 12 years ago I was mostly home bound because of it. I am now happily remarried, back to work and have two wonderful children...But I am the queen of avoidance. After reading session one and it described agoraphobia, it was describing me. Very painful to admit but freeing to have a name to explain my behavior. I guess one of my first thoughts are explaining some of this to my husband. He is very supportive of me but I don't think unless you have panic attacked yourself can you really grasp why you avoid things.

No questions, but I'm glad it exists :) Thank you for the welcoming. I've already spent some time looking through the forums, just to remember that other people out there are going through this too.

Feeling a lot weird about this, as I'm reluctant to accept help on any level, but just started the program a few days ago and finding it helpful thus far. So I'm posting. I'm 31, single mother of two. I had panic attacks in college for a couple years, and beat them back without medication or therapy by restructuring the way I thought. Took a long time. They started again last month after over 10 years of being almost entirely free of them. ( so it CAN be done because I've done it before.) Things being quite a bit different 10 years later in my life, I'm finding that I have to do it again, and it's somewhat harder. My biggest obstacles are the physical aspects of panic, as I'm really really good at triggering a panic attack from one tiny heart skip or itchy skin crawling moment. I have a hard time breaking the cycle of thinking about panic until I'm panicking. I know what it feels like to have your life turn into one endless panic cycle. It's devastating. I had a huge panic attack tonight that left me exhausted after two days of feeling good, and I know how it feels to get depressed and beat yourself up over it. I am hoping against hope that this will give me the tools, give all of us the tools to help us.
