I have one nicotine lozenge left

16 years ago 0 598 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi elderone, Where did that saying come from "naked as a jay bird", I mean, why not naked as a duck, or a robin?..always a jay bird..HA! Yea, I am crying today, anxious, restless..this really sucks. I don't want to feel like this anymore. Maybe because I have been on and off of every kind of NRT known to man for the past two years, with a few months of smoking inbetween..hence, going back on the nrt repeatedly. I am now to the point where mentally, I am done with smoking. I can't be on this merry go round of addiction any longer. And, I know that I have to keep my guard up at all times. I have made progress, tho. It is actually possible for me to be around my ex without bumming "one" cig. I can actually be at a bbq and not bum a cig. I don't bum any cigs from my roommate or take them out of his pack when he leaves them laying around. (sometimes, I pick up the pack and take a deep whiff of the tobacco) I am making progress. I have learned to say NOPE..all the time. I need to focus on the positive, accept when I feel like s#^@ and move on, smoke free. But, today, this sucks. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 94 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,256 Amount Saved: $470.00 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 1 Mins: 11 Seconds: 6

New me, I believe you still have a bit of nicotine in your system from the last lozenge. Tiny, but there. So basically, you're still going through a mini-detox period. Your brain has learned that lozenge = fix and now it wants its lozenge, hence the feeling that something should be in your mouth. Distract yourself, focus on other things, and know that it is temporary. And don't worry about thinking about smoking. It is natural. Annoying, I know, but natural, and it will also pass. Again, distraction is the key. You're doing it, new me, and nekkid as a jay bird. ;p ElderOne My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 827 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 16,540 Amount Saved: $3,919.98 Life Gained: Days: 150 Hrs: 20 Mins: 45 Seconds: 1

thanks aloha, I stayed very busy today. My daughter was visiting from NY..had to take her to the airport this am to fly back. That is always a tearful event..and, of course, a craving for a cig to handle the stress of the situation. The rest of the day, I did errands, banking, took my teenage boy shopping for some essentials and spent time with him. That was a pretty crave free experience. Now, I am home for the day. I am going to make a simple dinner, do some laundry, and lay on the sofa and watch tv this evening. 48 more hours and all the nicotine will be out of my system for good..wow, what a journey this has been. So many people make light of smoking and quitting smoking. This has been the hardest thing that I have ever done in my life. Thank you all for helping me along the way. new me..nicotine free My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 93 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,232 Amount Saved: $465.00 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 22 Mins: 18 Seconds: 12

Welll, the bbq was QUITE a challenge. My one daughter smokes once in a while, maybe once a month, when she is socializing. I saw her light up a cig and thought "wow, I could have just one..just today"....but, I finally knew the danger of doing that when you are serious about quitting. I finally figured out that I CAN NOT have just one cig. So, I made it through the entire day. I did have to come inside and lay on the sofa and watch tv for a couple of hours while all the younger family members hung out on the patio...I had to LEAVE the situation where people were smoking for a while. I am a little nervous today..chewing on straws, sucking on cough drops, drinking water. I am on my way to true freedom....no more nicotine for me. Thanks all. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 93 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,232 Amount Saved: $465.00 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 21 Mins: 29 Seconds: 24

Congratulations NewMe. This is another phase to walk through. You may find it a little tough you may not. Remember it is temporary, and believe that you can do it. You'll do fine, I know. I am a day shy of 2 weeks Nic free and am feeling fine - glad I made the decision to go without. The pounding heart beat is gone, anxiety has lessened, the triggers and thoughts are becoming less frequent and are delayed. The first few days seemed a little tough, but probably I made it that way...after that it has been smooth sailing. You can do this!!!! New Me, I will be thinking of you. You can and will do this. Just a word of caution, have a battle plan in place because you know that monster is waiting. Have a rubber malet so you can pound the you know what out of him :eg: Have your water in place, some nice treats and a good old fashion rock and roll music to dance to.
