feeling guilty about feeling down

Lara,

Take deep breaths and try to challenge those negative thoughts as they are not true!  Reacquaint yourself with our program tools and try completing the activities and worksheets (e.g., the Worry Challenge) and see if it helps you put those cognitive distortions to rest.

Continue to post here with your "panic problems" as we (your members in PC included) are here to support you.   If you are experiencing technical problems with the site, please contact us via feedback.

Hope your day goes better

Did you know?

Dear Members,

Did you know?

It is estimated that some 2 million Canadians suffer from panic disorder. Of those who have sought treatment for their symptoms, approximately two-thirds are women. Panic disorder typically begins in a person's late teen years, or early 20's, but children are known to suffer from the disorder. Research is discovering more information about genetic causes of panic disorder. Studies have also shown that the occurrence or anticipation of stressful life events, anxiety in childhood, over-protective parental behaviour and substance abuse are common among people with panic disorder.

Is it possible to fully recover from Panic Disorder?

Kitten,

Welcome to our wonderful online support community and thanks for sharing your story with us.  There are many people within this support group that share the same questions and concerns as you.  We are all a group of individuals who support each other.

If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests.  These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor.

We also have developed a Panic Program.  This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above.  Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead.

These tests may or may not be for you but they are "free".  If you have any question or concerns with our “TOOLS”, you can contact us at support@paniccenter.net.

Please continue to strive forward and lean on us for support.

I recommend you speak with your doctor about going off your medications, but as you have indicated, they are taken only when needed.

Panic Attacks

Titans88,

The drugs you have mentioned act on different areas of the brain and target different neurotransmitters.  Xanax should decrease your anxiety and Paxil provide relief from depression as well as generalized anxiety.  Hope this helps.

How is the box breathing and progressive muscle relaxation coming along by the way?

Menopause and panic

Lara,

Great advice!  Members, any other advice?  Have you also experienced panic attacks related to menopause?  How did you overcome it?
