Quitters 2007

Den2, I didn't like the wellbutrin and it's brand brother (Zyban...gave me a headache). Do you eat something before you take the med? A full glass of water after you take the med may also eliminate the stomach cramps and headache. I'm using Chantix...but Doc says I should stay on it for awhile too. (Chantix is more expensive than Wellbutrin) I remember the difficulty I had cold-turkey quitting back in 1982 (Aug 17 to be exact). For 10 years I remained a non-smoker... so, as an experienced quitter and knowing now from all the publicity the cigarette manufacturers have gotten about increasing the addictive properties of smokes...I wouldn't even attempt to try cold-turkey again. Den..better listen to the Doc on this one, you might mention the Chantix...to him though. this is probably the only product I would recommend to anyone wanting to quit. I have experienced cravings, but no where near what the cold-turkey did. this med also helps with the depression that is masked by smoking and is unveiled when you stop. I'm not having cravings now either...they are gone. I experience emotional triggers that make me think about smoking...but I can handle that and deal with the emotion. I like the fact that I am a NON-SMOKER NOW (and will remain one...believe me!) keep posting ...and Keep the Quit...it does get easier with every puff we "Don't Take" auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,577 Amount Saved: $147.25 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 8 Mins: 15 Seconds: 8

Life is a constant series of tests

Monica, Was wondering what happened to our faithfull little Angel. How awful and stressful this must be for you. You and hubby will be in my prayers today. I'm just shocked you haven't broken down already and smoked. Good Karma comes to little angels like yourself...don't forget that. Things may get worse before they get better, but IT WILL GET BETTER! Smoking will only intensify the stress with stimulation and interfere with your sleep...and god knows you need your rest now whenever you can grab it. Keep the Quit...we are plugging for you... auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,577 Amount Saved: $147.25 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 8 Mins: 12 Seconds: 15

Quitters 2007

Hi Den2, I'm posting (coping with cravings) from Sardinia, Ohio (southern ohio next to the River and Kentucky)and man...are we getting some of your cold Canadian "Blast"...shvvrrrr Down to wind chill of zero today and the temps are dropping. There are so many post sites and discussions to keep up with, it could keep you at the pc allllll dayyyyyyyyyyyyy! Sure hope your Doctor can find the Chantix (not cantrix)for you, just type in Chantix on the search bar, will give you just about all the information you or the Doc might need. Hope for smokers around the world that it will become available! med is made by Pfizer, in Ireland and ...the side effects were very minimal, taken as directed. My daughter recommended it to me or I would have been one of the ones saying ...no more magic pills. I wouldn't have believed it if I had not tried it! Good luck Den2 auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,679 Amount Saved: $156.75 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 14 Mins: 52 Seconds: 37

Headaches!

tryagain, Hey...come on, you knew this was going to be tough...you did your homework, Right? When we say Hell week...that's what we are talking about, and it should be coming to a close for you pretty soon if your staying smoke free. the headaches...please drink lots of water before you take that aspirin. Dehydration is one cause for a headache. (I don't want to scare you but my husband almost bled to death from taking an aspirin a day for his heart...what a joke about aspirin being good for your heart..oh yeagh...but not your stomache) and yes...you are going to get extremely angry and want a cigarette sooo bad...."what's wrong with you..." It's not you babe...it's the Addiction. Get control and pray for these days to end...and do not smoke. Get out of the house for a minute and breathe...think of the reasons why you want to be a non-smoker. If you can, just go to bed and sleep (if you sleep..you can't smoke) Each sneak puff you take means more agonizing craves. Each minute you fight against it is one minute closer to being free (really free) You see that meter below...it does not tell my whole story. I'm using Chantix now...to make this my final quit for the rest of my life....I remember my 10-year quit...a cold turkey Quit that I would not wish on my worst enemy. I'm sure many members see my words and are skeptical of my advise to other members or newbies who are quitting...because of the meter below. It has taken me quite awhile to even get the nerve up to try to quit again (because of the fear of that quit so long ago). Because I remember that last quit so well....is why after a month of no smoking..."I KNOW I HAVE IT LICKED" I'm not worrying about will I start again... If anyone is really sincere in wanting to quit...if you can get through 30 days of no smoking..."you are a winner". My coughing stopped after about 3 weeks completely! My constipation is gone as well. I'm sleeping like a baby too. My nerves are much better except when I drink too much coffee. Depression is unclear at this point because of the medication of Chantix...will let you know how I'm doing when the Dr. says I can stop taking it. It's working great for now and I'm not going to upset the apple cart...love to go on and on...but I'm going to wat

Hello I'm one of your 2007 quitters

catskins, WEll it's about time...you got in here and introduced yourself girl! Welcome and I'm with you... I'd rather eat dirt than go back to smoking. As you can see, I've been here about the same time as you. My habit was worse though at 2 1/2 packs a day. and this is my 2nd "for real quit" (my first was cold-turkey for 10 years) there will not be another one. Now...on to why this quit is worse than the last time for you. You won't believe me, but it's probably menopause creeping in on you. God help you sweeetheart. I was just about your age when these things started happening to me: It took me ten years to get through it. My periods started getting gradually heavier, I was a little moodier than before, my sex drive started increasing, I felt extremely ambitious and driven. My doctors told me I was fine too..."you are too young for menopause" b---s--- I was beginning to have very mild hot flashes in the mornings. sound familiar to you yet..(back then I thought I was experiencing the night before effects from one too many drinks)Now, I know better. But about the quit...hang in there...and don't smoke. I suspect that most of what you are experiencing is a little anxiety and depression in post nicotine withdrawal. This is normal, it might pay you to get that book by Allen Carr that everyone here recommends. Also, you might want to talk to your Doctor about a mild anti depressant...(for just the times you need it). If I had known back when...what I know now...I wouldn't be on this site doing it again. My mother told me years and years ago that menopause usually takes about 10 years, although you will never get a Doctor to agree with that. good luck auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,685 Amount Saved: $156.75 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 15 Mins: 19 Seconds: 47
