Her Battle is Over!!!

Just got home a bit ago after being with my dear friend who just passed away at 6:00 am from lung cancer. I think I've talked of her before on here and now just because I'm so wired up, I want to share with you what a night it has been. I was called to come over last night about 11 pm and gladly went to be with her, her two young children and their grandmother. She had asked for me earlier in the day. Sharon was 39 yrs. old with two children. One was 14 and one 8. She was concious until about 3 am this morning and was able to tell her children how much she loved them. She spoke briefly to me and asked that I keep a loving eye on her babies as I promised I would. She looked at me and said how proud she was that I had quit smoking and wished she had done the same. I had no words for her on that one as I was just too lost to speak. I've often wondered why some smokers live long lives while others seem to go very young and you know, there is no answer that I have to that question. I'll miss Sharon. I'll miss her laughter and her wonderful outlook on life. I won't miss the terrible pain my friend had been in for the last 4 months. She did go very quickly, but it was a horrible thing to see. Please don't let yourself go there also. Lady I read your post about your father and my heart goes out to you. I lost my father when he was 52 from heart disease. He was a 3 pack a day smoker. I"m tired now and need to try and sleep as I'll be busy later today. God Bless all of you here and please keep your quit. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 103 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,135 Amount Saved: $721 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 1 Mins: 28 Seconds: 0

So often times it happens....

Very good post and so true. Many times we analyze something to the point of ridiculous. It is simple. You smoke or you don't. All the other stuff around it is just our personal garbage that we add to the mix. The addiction part is real of course, but like all addictions, we have to face it and be stronger than it is. This is where the ssc comes in. So many here to help us when we do feel vulnerable. Keep the quit. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 111 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,450 Amount Saved: $777 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 3 Mins: 11 Seconds: 0

Interesting observation

Hi Pam Listen, I think the biggest problem you are having is worrying about why you slipped at that 100 day mark and a fear that it could happen again. Pam you are tough. You've been through this more than once, slipped a bit, came back and survived. Don't worry about it!!! I know they say to figure out what triggers certain things, but I believe as Golferman said in another post that you can get carried away with it. You're not going to smoke, period. Just like an alcoholic, there will be times when the thought of a cig will sound tempting, but it's just a thought. You are a non smoker now and so it's ok if you have a thought about your past lifestyle as long as you don't go back to it. You'll be fine my friend and I know you will certainly keep posting here and inspiring other to "keep the quit" vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 111 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,450 Amount Saved: $777 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 3 Mins: 12 Seconds: 9

when others are uncomfortable with your quit

Remember this. Your quit is a threat to those who still smoke. Why is that? Because they know that you are doing what they haven't been able to do so far. I'm 55 yrs old and I can tell you that among all the smokers I've known in the past 5 yrs., all have said at some time that they wish they could quit. Of course we were talking to each other as we smoked, but just commenting on how bad this addiction is. When I first quit, I had those who encouraged me and those who tried to discourage me. Just the other day when someone heard me replying on how long I've been smoke free, their comment was "just wait till you start gaining weight, then you'll smoke again". I looked at them and said I'd rather be 10 lbs. heavier than have to wear a 10 lb. tank of oxygen around with me for the rest of my life. They had no answer to that. You keep your quit. You are doing great and should be proud. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 111 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,450 Amount Saved: $777 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 3 Mins: 12 Seconds: 59

I'm a little worried...

Hey Fish Can I give you a little feedback as a non smoker and an alcoholic whose been sober going on 6 yrs. now? When I first quit drinking I too wondered how long it would be before I would really think of myself as a nondrinker. At first it was so hard to get through each day, then it was each week and then it was each month. Before I knew it, years had passed and I had stopped thinking about it. I don't know when that happened, I just know it did. Like cigarettes, alcohol is legal and is always attainable, so there comes a time in your life when you just realize that you've grown up and taken back control of your destiny. I'm not sure how this all works, but it does. Have faith that as you go along in your quit, your mind set will change. I promise you that it will get better. So often times it happens....

Hey Stoppin Glad you are doing better today. Tiramasu? Wish I had some of that. It's great that you post here whatever you are feeling. We've all done it. Look at how many post I have and you can see that I pretty much use to be here all the time early in my quit. It was and still is a safe place to be. You are among others who are doing the same as you. Keep your quit and keep up your posts. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 111 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,453 Amount Saved: $777 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 3 Mins: 24 Seconds: 14

100-day ramblings... aka - just about everything I know about quitting

I thought about doing the 100 day rambling thing but after all the posts I had already made I figured I'd rambled enough, lol. Congrats Pam on your 100 days!! Survivor

Saw the show. I'm not sure he is going to make it. They show in the previews where he is having a rough time and about to quit. It's funny though. I use to say I needed to go on that show so I would have to quit. Good Lord they Hired ME!!!

Just had so stop in and tell all of you the shock I got. Was in the hairdressers the other day and said to them they needed a receptionist. Well after a little more talking, they gave me the job. I couldn't believe it. I was just making a comment and ended up with a job. I started today and must tell you that it felt so good not to have to break for a cig. I also noticed all who came in smelling of the stuff. I feel really good at my age and after being off work for so long to have gotten a job, even though it is not that big a deal. I'm just sorta proud of myself. Things seem to be turning around for me. I owe it all to my new lifestyle changes.
