How do you reward yourself?

I heard this one from a friend of mine... She is going to have her teeth whitened. :) How cool is that? My teeth are blessedly white so it isn't a big motivator for me but if they weren't, that would be a biggie! I'm going to treat myself to hot baths with a good book, new clothes, trips to the gym, night out dancing, and some quiet time with my dear bf. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 176 Amount Saved: $55 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 3 Mins: 27 Seconds: 32

Closet Smoker finally quitting

Hi freemom! Well, my boss is an ex-smoker and a fanatic (not just about smoking... about everything) and he basically forced me to quit a few months ago. He was nice enough to pay for my first round of patches which I never finished... I was off cigs 3 weeks and resented it. I resent him... Anyway, I became a closet smoker for a brief period of time. I kept it hidden from him until yesterday when I told him I'd quit 10 days ago. But I did keep it from my kids and my boyfriend for a week or so after I went back... It actually helped me smoke less... But I felt like I was lying and that isn't good for me (hence the reason I told my boss yesterday - which was stupid) Anyway, I smoked less for a while but gradually added one or two here and there. Found more reasons to leave the office for a few. I know that part of my reason for acting so silly once I went back is he always bragged about how he could smell cig smoke a mile away. He never suspected... Guess I was too good at hiding it. :( Anyway, I finally realized it wasn't hurting him at all... but it was hurting my family... particularly my boyfriend. He hated it when I'd get up while we were watching tv together or doing something else together just so I could go smoke. He said it hurt him because it felt like I was putting the cigs before him... and, unfortunately, he was right. :( (besides the fact he wants us to live very long lives together) That was a big motivator for me in quitting and remembering him telling me that helps me through any weak spots now. Yes, our lives do mean a lot to others even when we don't think enough of ourselves to quit. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 176 Amount Saved: $55 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 3 Mins: 27 Seconds: 15

the last hurrah!

I SO get the 'break' thing. Cigs have always been my reward... If I finish this chore, if I put up with my boss another 30 minutes, etc... Between that and using it as a shield to protect myself in situations where I'm insecure... well... I'm having to retrain my brain. I'm trying to give myself other rewards and I'll be dealing with the protecting myself tomorrow night... We'll see how that goes. :) Good luck... And hang in there. I agree with the mindset of this is your choice... YOU are in control... (not the cigs) and no one is forcing you to do this. You've made a wise and healthy choice for yourself... You are actually rewarding yourself by quitting... How cool is that? :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 164 Amount Saved: $37.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 31 Seconds: 22

I can do it this time...

I've quit before... I know I can do it. I quit for 7 years... No need to tell me it was stupid to go back. :) I got it. :) Anyway, I'm on day 10 and SO proud of myself. The physical cravings have not been nearly as bad this time. In fact, I'm doing very well in that category. The psychological cravings are my weaknesses but even those aren't very bad this time. Missing "my friend" is likely to kick in at a later date but I'll deal with that when the time comes. For now, my only issue has been fatigue. I haven't seen anyone else fight this... I've spent the past 5 days sleeping... So tired I could barely hold my head up. Today it is finally getting better... So I'm hopeful again. I almost started smoking again yesterday just because I knew I couldn't live like that... Sleeping 12 - 14 hours a day... No way to live... But it is better... and I'm confident it will be better tomorrow. Anyway, I'm enjoying reading all the posts... The progress information has been SO encouraging! I LOVE seeing how many cigs I've not smoked and how much money I've saved. VERY cool. :) Well, good luck to everyone else on this journey... I have been napping almost daily since I quit smoking..Anyone else?

I'm SO glad to see this discussion. I kept reading everywhere that I was supposed to be jittery and not sleeping well... Everyone I've talked to said they were awake and anxious... I was the first couple of days but then the EXTREME fatigue set in and I slept every moment I could for 5 days. And I don't mean ssllleeeppp... I mean pass out cold as if I were on drugs or something. Wake up 3 hours later in the same position... This only after being awake 4 hours... I was napping 3 or 4 times a day... for at least an hour. It was starting to depress me then yesterday it started getting a little better.... Today I'm almost myself again. Anyway, I'm SO glad there are people with the same experience and I know I'm not losing my mind. :) Ok... so did that YEARS ago... but you know what I mean. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 171 Amount Saved: $41.25 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 2 Mins: 35 Seconds: 1

Spaced out...

Ok... so I was reading how quitting could cause this... and I've SO been there... This morning, I read, and I'll quote, "It can include changes in distance and space perception". So should I remind my very supportive boyfriend of this as I tell him I dented the bumper this morning because I didn't see the tree was so close? :) Seriously, I put a dent in his brand new truck this morning... I was backing into my parking space at work and I swear that tree was NOT so close! Fortunately, he took it well and didn't have to blame it on the lack of cigs... too much oxygen... or whatever. I'm a lucky woman. :) Gotta have a sense of humor about all this, right? :)

Woman thing again

Haven't done that yet but I am THINKING more about my appearance... (haven't been awake long enough yet to do much) but I think it's a great idea! I'm going to the gym today... I'll be 44 this year and it seems like a really good time to start taking even better care of myself... Besides, I have a really hot boyfriend and want to feel as young as he looks. :) This no smoking thing has been great for my outlook!
