Forget the crescent

As I mentioned earlier,I have tried to quit 3 times before but this time I know will be my last as I just know I won't smoke again. I guess I am alot more prepared now. I have read loads and have realised that I am an addict (a thought which disgusts me!) I also realised that my past attempts were half hearted and \I did not put 100% into them. It seems totally different now. Smoking is THE ANTI SOCIAL pastime of today. When I was younger evereyone seemed to smoke, now it's the complete opposite. I guess for me personally this fact has give me the extra shove and now I just don't see the crescent - I see the whole of the moon. I hope Everyone gets to see it soon!!! Karen x

Hello Everyone

Hi Peter and welcome. I also managed to convince myself I had throat cancer - even a visit to the dr who explained I was sufferering from laryngitis still did'nt really appease me. The mind is incredibly powerful Peter, just as sur as it can convince someone to have a horrible disease it can convince someone to have positive feelings and beat this crappy addiction. Beleive in yourself - you can beat this! Karen x

Welcome B...

Hi Beefree, Although I can't add much to the advice you've already gotten I will however tell you how I got through my first 3 days. I LOVE COFFEE so this was a pretty tough hurdle to overcome. Except I never used to eat a proper b/fast just coffee + cigs. So each a.m I still had coffee - only this time I had an egg, toast or bacon sarnie instead of a cig. This immediately broke the association of cigs = coffee. Karen x

Day 2

Hello everyone, I'm only only on Day 2 of my quit (the 3rd time!) but this time I feel so positive about it. I acctually had a abd case of laryngititis before xmas and the dr said I should stop smoking. Did I?NO. Anyway I went to the canary islands over xmas and new year (still smoking) and the larygitis went away.Hower when I returned in the middle of Jan it came back with a vengeance!!! So I was determined to sort this out once and for all. My daughter who's 13 is at thte age where every spare moment is spent listening to music channels on the tv and songs I thought I could join in with just come out as a croak or a strained effort! Also I know you shuld think good of everyone but I can't help but feel jealous of my neighbours (who are non smokers) yet I hear them next door in their garden absolutely P****D and not a ciggy in sight!!!! Well these are my reasons and they mean alot to me!

Hi, I'm trying again

Hi Joanne I'm on uk time as well. This is my 4th (and final) quit so dont worry about trying again. I'm also using the patches and I found that after only a couple of days (I'm onday 5) I'd managed to overcome alot of @triggers@ such as coffee, wine etc. The worst one was actually the ironing would you beleive?! Reason being I would get so bored doing it I would have a cig just to break up the monotony. When I eventually did it (smoke free)last Sunday I was amazed how easy it actually was (alot quicker too). I know I am alot more prepared too and I think from the tone of your post so are you. As you say as long as you know when you would normally light up you can have something else lined up to do instead. I am sure you can do it Joanne. GO FOR IT!! Karen xx

slip while drinking

I have to agree with penitent here. Although I am only on day 6 of my quit I haven't given up a glass of wine or 2 in the evening . Far from make me want to smoke I find it relaxes me . I realise this is not the "normal' reaction to have BUT I believe everyone is different and so are their quits. What works for one person will not work for another but surely if the same end is achieved ie NOPE it is up to the individual?
