I am quitting smoking tomorrow. I feel relieved, nervous, dread, fear, and a bit excited too. I feel like I've done all the planning I can. I just need to take the plunge. I'll be posting more over the next few days. Happy to have found this program.
Hey Maria -
Just want to let you know that this isn't your private nightmare. We can all relate. We're all in the same boat, and we'll all get through this together. Beyond people's encouragement and supportive comments, I've found comfort in knowing that other people (like yourself) are scared of quitting. I just keep reminding myself that it's the cigarettes that create the fear, the cigarettes feed the fear.
I wish bravery for you (and myself too...). We're all in this together.

I guess my false start was because I had a spite-smoke in the morning. My boyfriend was leaving town and we had a very unsatisfactory goodbye. He's a non-smoker, and I guess part of the reason I want to quit is because it bothers him so much. So when I felt frustrated with him I had a spite-smoke and sabotaged my quit day. I thought about it a lot and realized that I'm not quitting for him - I'm quitting for me! So far so good today.
I can quit!

Hey Maria -
The last time I tried to quit, the biggest mistake I made was waiting around for something to happen, waiting for the moment when I knew I was quit. We already have quit! We quit every time we extinguish a cigarette. So - we should start celebrating as soon as we put that final cig out. YAY!!! We're free!!! We are non-smokers!! We never have to choke ourselves with those filthy things again. We did it!!!
I think beyond changing our lifestyle, I think changing our frame of mind will be the most helpful.
1) I already am a non-smoker.
2) I'm not going through withdrawl, I'm in recovery.
