HI, I´m new out the box..

Hi, I'm Nicole, I'm 25 and I'm also new here.

I have had anxiety since I was quite young but I didn't really know what it was! It wasn't until I was 18 or so that I realised. It has decided to peak lately and upon searching for online help, as I feel agoraphobia is getting stronger (I can currently go out but only so far!), I found The Panic Center. Can't wait to get started, hoping for positive happy results.

Newbie from AZ here

Hi Nicole, (I'm Nicole too!). I'm also brand new using this and can completely get the worry about going to the Dr to get help...from the Dr! But I do too hope this CBT will help. There are so many good reviews out there about it that it's always worth a go. I have had CBT before, for a short period, and it did help me. I hadn't travelled by car for a few months and after some CBT I was able to be in the car and travel a few minutes to my destination. I had a small set back occur but I know I've done it before so it can be done again! Hope you're enjoying the CBT so far :)

Is it good to do lots at once? or pace yourself?

Hi,

I'm sure this may have been asked before but I  was going through the stages, prior to starting my homework for the week and it said about doing at least 3 hours exposure work per week. Now, even though I have yet to even do 5 minutes I had a question about this being enough?
If I were to try exposure every day, for example, as I work from home and I am agoraphobic via travel (I am ok walking short distances from home as as long as I am able to walk fast or run back home). Would this be too much at once and could cause a set back? Or should I just keep going and if I end up doing more than 3 hours or if I end up doing it at least once a day - is that ok?

As I've said I have yet to even start the homework but I just wanted to know if I did as much as I could and felt good about it could it still technically be too much at once.

(My main reason being my father is in hospital and would love to be able to travel and visit him).

Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks,
Nicole.

Exposure ideas

Hi, First off massive well done on going walking distance from your home and the supermarket shopping. I am currently at the stage of walking distance and can only hope that shortly I too can get to the supermarket. I think it's really important to see where you came from to where you are now. Could you perhaps think of smaller steps to get to the parent teacher interviews? As in maybe when you're at the school ask one of the teachers a quick question about the next holiday, or if they have anything due for the following day? This could work as exposure I think, and please mods correct me if I am wrong. That would then gradually build you up from not going to the meeting to saying Hello to the teacher, asking a question etc. Or even see if you can attend a school day where they are holding a concert or something. Get the feeling of the school around you. Build from that and then the parent teacher interviews might actually become enjoyable? In a different way of saying it if you want to swim then you do need to go into the water, but with exposure you don't need to jump right into the deep end...it's okay to walk slowly up to it.
