I found that the patch did make the area that the patch was on a little warm but not extremely. I also noticed when I took it off at night that my skin would be a little red and irritated underneath but again it didn't look bad enough for me to be concerned with. You have to know your body well enough to know if something does not seem right to you. (as is the case when you start any meds...how severe are your side effects, etc) so be careful but I haven't heard of too many horrible reactions to the patch. Yes, it does matter where you put the patch. Do not put it on your chest near your heart. You do not want to put a patch in the same place everyday. You need the skin to breath for 24 hours. What I would do which worked very well for me (especially for memory) was to switch everyday between left and right arm and then top and bottom. See below. I found this the easiest method to remember. Please make sure you read the pamphlet inside the box. I also asked the pharmacist if it makes any different brands made a difference and just like medication, he said that most generic versions will follow the same formula as the widely recognizable brands. So you can try a no name brand (Shoppers Drug Mart, Safeway, etc) instead of buying nicoderm.
