Coughing?

16 years ago 0 229 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I never coughed when I smoked.. just a little clearing of the throat every day. No coughing since I quit and the 'clearing of the throat' disappeared around week 2, but in the last few days it's back. Just a little annoyance and I can live with it. IF it continues I will ask my dr. about it. Have a great smoke free day all :) Peace :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 49 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 980 Amount Saved: $441.00 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 14 Mins: 29 Seconds: 20

I'm just starting to get that tickle in my throat. Kind of annoying, actually. But it didn't happen right when I quit...wonder if it takes a few days to get your lungs to the point where they realize "Hey, we can work!"? :) Hope everyone has a great day! Hey All - I've coughed too - but less than when I was smoking! - All the experts say that the coughing is normal (your lungs clearing and healing) - and it can last longer than 2 weeks - I'm not coughing as much - but still coughing! - It's a pain - but it's better than SMOKING! - Mention it anyway - it's always good to do so. I hope everyone stays smoke free - #16 for me! Cigarettes Not Smoked

The past couple months I have been coughing during my morning shower. Almost as bad as when I used to smoke but this is a dry cough. Possibly due to the high pollen count this time of the year in NC. It is not consistant but will mention it to my doc during my next visit. thank you for this important message...i am on day #75 and never thought i would get here...i am finally able to make a doctor's and dental appointment without the guilt "so...you're still smoking?" now i can say "no, i am a non-smoker.." i feel better than i did when i was a smoker and for the first time in a while...have no funny aches or pains that i was just used to having...i wonder how much of it came from smoking.....every night when i run to my bus i am thankful for the 75 days and the support of this group...it's time to take stock in ourselves physically, mentally, spiritually.... Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Members, Please add your thoughts to any thread. If you have comments and questions we are happy to answer as well As you quit smoking you can experience an uncomfortable cough. You can start to cough up black/brown mucous. What is happening is that your body's Cilia (which are tiny hair-like particles that line your lungs) are in a healing process. They are first paralyzed and your body does not want to produce any mucus, therefore a dry cough sets in. As the cilia begin to heal themselves they start to clean all areas of your lungs. This is where you start to cough up all that awful mucus. These symptoms can last day or weeks after you quit smoking. The healing is a long process of change, even though some of the benefits come more quickly than others. Try drinking more water, herbal tea and even cough drops or candy. If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should immediately consult a doctor. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable. Smoking does mask symptoms, so it is important to really know what your body is going through. Regular appointments with your doctor can be beneficial to rule out anything medical. Have a great day!
