Hell week's over - why do I feel so down today?

Jazz, I think you are doing great and surprised that after just one week you are "aware" when you are in a bad mood. It is when you don't admit it when you get into trouble. I tell my wife when I am feeling angry and is probably the first step to overcoming it. BTW, anger is a classic side-affect to quitting. Jazz, You and your husband are doing great! It also might be a milestone thing. You were working so hard to get to that week. And in the past how did you reward yourself for a job well done? A cigarette maybe? Your brains might be crying out for their reward, and throwing a hissy fit because they're not getting it. So, reward yourselves some other way, and make sure you consciously acknowledge that is what you are doing, and why. One week is a great accomplishment, and you will get through this just like you got through last week....determination and a positive attitude. Jazz, What you are feeling is totally normal. It takes a while for your body to adjust to life without cigarettes/nicotine/3999 other chemicals that you're used to. Your body is going through a lot of really huge changes right now, both physically and emotionally. You're emotional withdrawals take some time to adjust to - about 2-4 weeks. You may be feeling sad because it was an underlying condition before you quit and now it is surfacing or it may just be a withdrawal symptom from the cigarettes. Cigarettes release chemicals into our brains that produce a temporary feeling of happiness. Once we come off the high, we go have another cigarette, therefore keeping the happiness alive. It will take your body some time to adjust to maintaining happiness without a constant influx of chemicals from cigarettes. In the mean time, reward yourself, engage in pleasurable activities and surround yourself with a good support team. If your symptoms persist we recommend you go see a doctor for some other options. Definitely time for a reward, and a good one, too! That first week is hell, that's why it's called hell week. And the second week is no day at the beach, either. If it was, it would be called day at the beach week! Ha! I still kill me. You guys are all doing great. This is a very, very hard thing and it's important to recognize your brave, tough, smart self for every little victory. Keep going, keep rewarding and spoiling yourselves. Your body will tell you what you need, if you listen. It might be rest, exercise, time alone, someone to talk to, a reward, whatever, but it is NEVER a smoke! Hey J & J! There is a definite feeling of loss for some quitters. It does feel like the loss of a friend, one that was killing us! There are also bouts of depression that come here and there, probably also due to the chemical changes we are going through in our brains! After all, we smoked our brains out pretty good for some time! I used vitamin B complex for the blues and it helps! I also took Vitamin B12 if it got real annoying. The thing to remember here, is that these are normal symptoms of quitting smoking, and they will pass, as your body heals! Try to pamper yourself as much as you can. (((Jazz))) I'm not sure why but think it may have something to do with mourning the loss of our cigs...we are saying goodbye to our old way of life and starting a new one. Hi all. I was so excited going to bed last night to be able to say that my husband and I made it the full week without caving. Couldn't wait to look at my quit meter today. But.....I didn't sleep more than 2 hours last night, and we both woke up in a foul mood. What's with that? I know part of it could be lack of sleep, but I've been dealing with that issue all week, and trying to remember to take my patch off earlier in the evening. Last night hubby was really pumped, talking about how proud he is of both of us, especially himself because he didn't think he could get this far. He's even talking about his quit at work, so he must feel really good about what he's done. Today, I feel down, ready to cry, and just plain ticked off. I've read through a bunch of posts this morning, trying to boost my spirits, but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm not craving really badly today, so it doesn't seem to be that. Why am I not overjoyed to look at my mileage??
