My experience with...

My experience with Chantix I've been a smoker for 40 years. They ruled my life. It wasn't an option not to smoke. Every 45 minuets or less my body told me I needed a smoke. Could not attend a movie and watch it through without feeling symptoms. First thing I do is light up which makes me cough. I'm coughing and yet forcing that smoke down my lungs. No MORE. My Mom smoked for 50 years, has tubes in her to keep her alive. Is on oxygen 24-7. Bypass surgery, claudation in her veins. Mostly due to cigarettes. Mom stopped smoking. Took 8 days. I could not believe it. Nobody could believe it. She did it and has not had a smoke since. Amazing by anyone's standards. She never told me how, she just said, I put them down. WOW. Jan 1st 2007 a new tax in Texas on cigarettes added 1.00 per pack. That's ridiculous in my mind so I started thinking maybe it's time for me to take the leap. So as a token gesture I went to the doctor. I never really thought he would give me something that actually worked. When I told him I was considering it he said" Man, do I ever have a pill for you". "Yeah right I thought". I filled the RX and told my Mom, she said that's the same thing she took. It was chantix. Ok, so started chantix, taking it and smoking normally. A few interesting things started to happen, and took me totally by surprise. First, I would walk in the house and smell smoke. God it stinks. I had a cigarette in my mouth at that time. How weird...it happened more than once. On day six of the treatment I was still smoking normally. I had a social event to attend in the evening. I went in at 7:00 and left at 12:00. What surprised me is that at NO time did the thought enter my mind I need to go out smoke. Any other time I would be outside 3 times in that same time frame. It just never occurred to me. That was the first time I could actually see some difference. It just happened without me thinking about it. Weird! I'm not home free, today is day 6 of smoke free. My mornings are tough, and I'm fighting a sick stomach and nerves. I just thought I would report what happened to me. Chantix is doing something for me without me really thinking about it. For sleep my Dr. is giving me Trazadone 150mg. It seems to mix fine with Chantix. Been sleeping a lot which is a g

good for you joseph. Chantix is something really different alright. I know I sure like it. I think of smoking but thats because my husband is downstairs in his workshop smoking and I can smell him when he comes up. I don't like the smell anymore. I still love him though HA HA. He has a prescription sitting on the frig that the doctor told me to give him saying it was a christmas present from him. I don't know if he will ever use it or if he is waiting to see how I do. good luck to you,and have your mom support you. jnine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 112 Amount Saved: $13.75 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 17 Mins: 38 Seconds: 5

Good for you Joseph! Enjoyed you sharing your story with us. Keep on taking the Chantix. It seems to be doing the trick for you! We can't get Chantix here in Ontario, so I'm on wellbutrin. Seems to be doing much the same thing. Except for today...today was a rough one. Made it through, though. And $1.00 more a pack really makes you think. Some brands up here are around $9.00 for a pack of 25. Here's to having some money in our pockets!!!! All the best to you, Joseph, Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/13/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 204 Amount Saved: $54 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 18 Mins: 21 Seconds: 24
