I have a question

Nonic - For what its worth when I looked into using Welbutrin, the doc said it wasn't good for me because it increases anxiety as a side effect and I was dealing with enough anxiety to start with. There are other meds you can take that will help you stay calm which can also help with your quit, at least indirectly. You should definitely check in with your doc. Windy You read my mind...I am sitting here trying to puzzle that out...I have a suspicion that the Welbutrin is somehow causing the anxiety...I started this quit with 21 mg patch, and went to 14 at the prescribed time...I was anticipating additional craves as I stepped down, so I got the prescription for Welbutrin...Maybe I should not have gotten the anti-depressant...I have 1 more week on 14 mg...I might dispense with the Welbutrin and see if the anxiety is being driven by the anti-depressant... Thanks for the input... nonic

Deli thanks for your input...I am watching myself very closely...When I lived over seas, I began having panic attacks, to the point that I ended up on the floor next to the heater, trying to stay warm... I know that I have used cigs to cover emotions and I don't think that that is to uncommon. At this writing I am trying to locate a psychologist who speciatlizes in addictive disorders. Once I make it down to 7mg...I want to be ready. This quit is very important to me and I will go through anything to never smoke again... Hurrying on down to Quittentown nonic

I am sensing a pattern developing with this quit...Each day I wake and have no craving for cigs...I am out the door and in the car and driving to my first visit and even if it is 2 hours away no cravings...I will work all day, doing 3 visits of approsimately 2.5 hours each...At the third visit I get hit with what I describe as a flat our aniety attack...It is that awful lost feeling that gets in your stomach and makes you just want to bolt...I generally stop what I am doing at that point and go outside and walk as fast as I can until I sense that the thing is gone... Deep breathing also helps a great deal and I can get back to what I was doing...This tends to be followed by a deep sense of well being...I am on a patch...14mg and wellbutrin...Any thoughts would be helpful... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 45 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,097 Amount Saved: $315 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 11 Mins: 56 Seconds: 45

Hi Nonic - I have medication for panic attacks which was prescribed in 2005. I rarely use it but knowing it is there helps me to stop the anxiety from spiralling when it feels like my head is going to pop off. By now, you are probably anticipating that you will be anxious on your 3rd visit. As a result, your anxiety is probably starting to escalate before you get there. Perhaps you could do the deep breathing, walking, etc earlier to reduce your anxiety before it gets too high. I'm wondering when the anxiety started. We are all very different. I didn't have any problem with the patch but wellbutrin actually increased my anxiety. Did it start with the medication, the patch or the quit and/or all of the above? I'm not sure how helpful this is but hope you find the solution that works for you. Hi nonic, I'm no expert on NRTs I'm afraid, but I do understand the feelings of anxiety attacks. It's not nice at all and I'm sorry to hear that you have to endure these horrid things at the mo. I went through a patch of dealing with these attacks of anxiety and found distraction the best way to deal with it. You are right to use breathing to relax you physically, but then I would usually try to force my thoughts elsewhere, to reduce the 'panic'. One thing - NOTHING ever happens during these panic attacks. Nothing bad will happen to you. Maybe you should have a word with your doctor, to check on the meds and the patch. Hope you're feeling better soon, Deli My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 191 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,876 Amount Saved: 573 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 3 Mins: 8 Seconds: 42

Nonic, Please consult your doctor. He/she is the best authority to advise you on this matter and will be able to determine whether or not the increased anxiety is related to panic disorder, quitting or both. He/she will also be able to advise you on tapering the Rx if that is your choice and if that is what is best at this time. Danielle __________________________ The SSC Support Team
