Getting by.

Another long day ending at 8 pm. And I'm supposed to be retired not retarded. Accomplishment does a lot for self esteem. I never got everything done but I seldom do since I aim high all the time. Still it was a good day. and I'm still on schedule. Ahead a bit actually. I've left the door to the little green house open once to often and have mice in it now. Well tonight I have mouse traps in it too. I'll keep it closed now. Lettuce is coming up now. It will be ready when my friend gets here. Today I set up a little barbecue too. A long time since I barbecued. It has good instructions though. I need to cut the bottom out of a coffee can to use for a lighting tower since I won't use lighter fluid. Bloody purist.
Clear sky tonight so tomorrow is likely going to be nice. Lots to do inside if it is not. I have trees to spray with Lime/sulphur and dormant oil and I just bought a new sprayer. All shall go well as long as the wind doesn't blow.
What a change my life is compared to five years ago. And now I have little plants to water. Lots of them.

Pies are going to have to wait. It is not raining so I am going outside to do what I can. I will have to start transplanting pretty soon. Plants are getting too big for cell packs. Germination was good too so there are too many. I will need to give away some.
Today I hope I am good enough to climb a ladder. If not it can wait till tomorrow and Tim can do it. Some time soon I need to have some one dig up a yard hydrant that is leaking and cap off the line.
The chores are never ending as are the expenses when a person owns instead of renting. But in the end you can recoup these expenses by having something to sell. Renting you have nothing but a lot of receipts. But it works for those that don't care.

Birds are singing and this morning it all seems worth while. Or maybe it is just me. CBT really does work if you do it.
Five years ago I was a wreck struggling just to get by. And every thing was hard or impossible to do. Not so any more. It is still hard but not important any more. And it gets done.
And I can enjoy coffee again.

The plans of mice and man :-)
Well I had some running around to do and then got rained out. But I need and want the rain even if it turns to snow.
After this the grass will turn green and leaves will pop out. If you look for it you can find good in most everything. And that you can't you can work around. I have my piece of tin, now to bend it to the curve of the wall. The green house is a gothic arch. It looks like my tires won't get done till next week. Thursday when tim comes it is not supposed to be raining. Well you never can tell in this country.

I think if it rains tomorrow and it is supposed to that it will be time to make some apple pies.

Peter is bringing over a piece of tin roofing to put behind the stove in the green house to protect the back wall. It will protect it from the stove pipe too. Tim will come over Thursday and put on the last pieces of corrugated plastic and the chimney jack and then I can use it. I put a switch and plugin inside and ran the wire through the wall so it doesn't have to go through the door. I will put a light and thermostat in there so I will know when the temperature gets too low. A horn would be better.
This morning I will put a patch on the little green house and a heater in it and start moving plants out to it. I have to go to town for a pressure sprayer I ordered for watering. I will use it to spray the fruit trees with lime/sulphur and dormant oil to kill bug eggs and prevent moss from growing. It has to be done before the buds open. There is only a small window of opportunity every spring when it doesn't rain or the wind blow. It prevents fungus from growing on the trees and their spores making black spots on the apples. And now I have to check when my tractor has to go to town for it's tires. They didn't come Friday because of the holiday. And the Easter bunny is late but I believe he may have left a parcel at the post office.

Happy Easter.

Last night I was so tired and just wanted to sleep but Richard decided we were cutting up the lamb I bought off him. Well I never turn down free labour. But I think I fell asleep a few times.
A time to reap and a time to weep. The spring is so busy but you reap what you sow in more ways than one so busy it is.
Spring is a time of growth and change so if there is anything that needs to be changed now is the time.
It is also a time to clean the cob webs out of the corners of your mind. A time to make right past wrongs so they don't grow.
Today is a day to celebrate not just get by. There will be enough of that.

Well today was another long day but I am getting things done. Tim did come over and put the plastic on in the rain.
I finished tilling all the way around the green house and will rake out the loose weeds, mostly quack grass. There will be no excuse for grass in the green house now. The little tiller will keep it down. I hope to till between the asparagus rows in a couple of days. I finished planting the seeds I start early. Already some need to be transplanted to bigger pots. I have enough work to fill all my days. Thirty one different flowers and vegetables started.
My friend will move in in exactly one month. Moving truck should be here two days before her. I'm glad they will unload it.  I'll have the potatoes and a few other things planted before she gets here but a lot will be a week after she gets here. Maybe I can slow down then. Some how I doubt it.
Still having fun.

Good morning Ashley, Good morning everyone.

I sure hope Tim is not afraid to work in the rain. It is a typical wet drizzly spring morning but it will help green things up and get rid of the last of the snow. I'm not big on working in the rain but will when there is no choice. I certainly won't complain about it since our summers have been getting drier. Tim will be putting on the plastic by himself so my day won't change much. Starting the last of the seeds for plants to set out. Then sorting pots and making room in the little green house to move everything from the house. I hope to move all the flats out there next week and start transplanting into bigger pots. Cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli will be large and their roots filling the plastic beer glasses I start them in. They will also be taking up a lot of room as there are around seventy five of them. And hundreds and hundreds of flowers. Some stuff will go right into the ground. Like tomatoes and cucumbers. Herbs cantaloupe and the rest of the tomatoes will need a few more days before they get planted in the big greenhouse. And of course the flowers will need to stay there till they go outside, hundreds of them.
So I'm busy, and busy helps me and a feeling of accomplishment helps. And right now coffee helps keep my eyes open.

I just noticed my pack of screws has only half as many as I need. Oh well, I will do what I can and get more. I got side tracked but it was good side tracked. I moved the last two plants I needed to. Now I can spread the peat moss on that bed.

Back out to put as much chimney together as I can. Too sore to be climbing ladders today. Two days ago the geese were picking away at the only bare spot in the back yard, today it is all bare.

YES. well that went well. I did find another fitting that needs to be replaced some time but not today. So now I wait for the floor to dry to see if there are anymore leaks. At least I got to do this in the basement instead of some cramped cold well house.

It is only ten so it is still cold out. I think I will unload the car and go get groceries, there might be seeds.
Still too blue for rain. If there are no seeds then I'll work on the chimney in the green house. I should make a chicken casserole too.

Things don't always go as planned. It certainly can be frustrating but isn't anything to worry about. After a whole day of changing things on the pump so I could fix the leak and move it out of the way I have a different leak. It should not take long to fix that and I can take that off my mental list. For what I saved by not hiring a plumber I can spend on flower beds. I'd rather look at flowers. It was 8pm last night when I decided to leave it till today. Too many trips up and down the stairs, I could hardly walk anymore. In theory I could spend all day fixing the leak and cleaning up and still be ahead of schedule but I'm hoping it only takes two hours. Thank God for floor drains.
I have the stuff to finish the chimney for the greenhouse in the car and although it is supposed to be raining it isn't so I'd rather be doing that. We shall see. I also have peat moss to spread. There is no lack of things to do. The lawn is sticking out of the snow and wants to be raked. I would also like to take all the plants out of the house and move them to the little green house this weekend. There should be more flower seeds in the mail too. There is no end of things to do to keep my demons at bay.
