Thanks again Davit,
No need to ask your neighbor friend. I was just curious because you said you were both doing so well and cutting firewood again. So I figured you must have had a different method of repair than they are doing here. You are really very lucky to have access to such excellent care and it is something you never have to worry about being you are a Citizen of Canada. I am sure it will never get that good in the U.S. at least not in my lifetime. The Obama health care plan that they are forcing down peoples throats right now is not improvement at all and does nothing to improve the quality of care that the citizens receive here..Things are getting and are going to continue to get a lot worse here in the states..The prospect of surgery and the very real possibility of a not so good outcome or seeing a doctor and maybe receiving good care is a scary reality for many of us here. If you are healthy it's ok to live here if not your in big trouble and have reason to be very scared..Edd's daughter is having surgery on Dec 2 and we are praying that it goes well for her. She too had trouble finding a doctor and surgeon that would be straight with her..She says she now knowns what we meant when we talked about going to doctors appointments and coming away not knowing more than we did before we walked in..The doctors don't want to commit to anything..It is very scary if you are sick and need their care here..

The old saying..

"If you have your health your have everything"

  It sure holds true here...

My friends name is David also, he never mentioned mesh but I can't ask him, he goes south for the winter. I won't see him till spring. I was just stitched up but they used retention sutures to hold me together because either staples or regular sutures just rip out. I actually hadn't heard of mesh. More and more of our doctors are being paid salary so they can spend the time they need with patients. I think it is a better system. You know I was supposed to die, they had to cut away a couple of inches of gangrenous muscle and except for a rather wide scar you can't tell. I can feel nothing but when I look in the mirror my centre line is offset. I think we are finally offering Doctors a reason to stay here. We used to lose a lot to the States. My primary Doctor is or was American.
If this specialist is as good as you say, and if he is paid salary he won't need to rush then he would be the one to see.
There is a doctor sponsored and monitored diet that people have lost weight on and kept it off. As far as I know it is only through hospitals. It might be safe for diabetics. We don't have it anymore, the doctor doing it has moved. I can ask Deb next time I see her if she has literature on it.

Davit,
I have a question. If you don't mind me asking..These hernia surgeries that you and your neighbor had..Did they use mesh for the repair or did they just stitch the hernias up?..I know they do it both ways in Canada...In the states they pretty much use mesh on everyone now. There have been a lot of issues with the mesh in the past but they have improved the material over the years..

Canada is the only place that has a hospital the specializes in hernia repair..People come from all over the world to go to their hospital..They have excellent success rates. The very rarely use mesh, do open surgery and swear by their methods..It is called shouldice hernia centre and is located in Thornhill,Ontario, Canada..There surgeons are specially trained in their methods. The person having surgery person has to be the right weight before they can have surgery at their hospital...If I loose weight I could have my surgery there..it is option..I am considering. That is one reason I am working on loosing weight..

I have a neighbour who had a hernia operation. He is early 60's. He can cut his firewood again. I don't know how bad it was. They fixed my umbilical hernia with my ulcer operation. So far so good. I have a lot of scar tissue there because they cut me open three times in the same place. And I'm on prednisone so I don't heal very good. No pain though even though some of the muscles still haven't grown back. I guess you just have to weigh the odds and decide. I've had a good day, Haven't used my cane at all today. I need to split some kindling for morning yet but that is all. It warmed up again and is going to rain now. I'd rather it didn't. I made an angel food cake and I'm going to try to make it last two days. I have strawberries to go with it.
Started back working in my shop today using a piece of apple on the lathe. It had four big branches that will give it texture. The wood has a red tinge that may stay.

Supper time now.

Thanks guys for showing your support..I do appreciated it and it never goes unnoticed. You make a  real difference and don't you ever forget it.

For last couple of days and I have been eating low carbs and doing a 45 min walk each day. The walking has be harder for some reason..Maybe the diabetes, the diet or my hernias. They are causing me pain when I walk now, kind of like a strained groin..I have been a bit tired and grouchy too..I am thinking about seeing my primary doctor again and maybe scheduling hernia surgery before the new year then maybe it will be easier for me to do my walking on a regular basis again. That's after the recovery period which will be several months this time, more like a year to play it safe..I have been told there are not guarantees with this surgery and I could have chronic pain after but I just might take a chance and see if it helps..I am still in the thinking process on it though.. I wish I look into a crystal ball and foretell the future..Wouldn't that be grand..

Davit,
It's great to hear you resting.

I saw a window pane fall out of the garage window, so I tackled the job of replacing it with mixed results.

It's amusing to watch me try to do this, now.  I didn't have glass, so I thought I'd use some metal for ductwork, regretfully. To get the right dimensions, I thought I could bend out the bevelled ends, but there wasn't enough, and it began to rain.  I found a gift container of metal, but it was so hard to cut with metal snips.  When I wandered into the garage, I found some think plywood, but  after cutting it, it didn't fit.

Of course I'd be using silicone to secure the other glass panes, while I was there.  Since I didn't have a wood plane, I thought I'd just silicone what I glass there was, and just nail the wood piece, which wasn't perfect, in.

But I couldn't get the darn nail out of the silicone cylinder.

So I've ended up being sore, using tiny carpet nails to secure glass panes, until another day when I figure out, if I ever do, where the wood plane is.

As for the silicone, I'm sure I'll find a way to get that nail out so I can use it again.

My hands are sore too, since I haven't been using my night splints for my carpal tunnel syndrome.  This never happened when I was young, and seemed to have limitless physical strength, stamina.  I wish I could find stuff too.  And I don't wish to waste time on petty issues, because I obviously don't have energy to spare.

I was joking to myself, as I felt my vulnerability, how a racoon could tear the window apart if s/he wished to.

Sitting here this morning with a hot chocolate watching the snow come down lightly. The morning sky is red on the horizon. Thinking about Christmas trees of all things. Cakes and cats and earthworms. Earthworms will have migrated down to where the ground isn't frozen. Cats are curled up watching me with one eye waiting for me to light the fire and warm the house to their liking. Then I have a cake to make. No plans after that but I will find something to do.
Just another day in paradise.

Davit

For those new people reading this and thinking I must be crazy, they are right but I have it well in hand. And today is special.

What inspired me was reading about celebrities who had  diabetes. Sometimes people keep it to themselves, but athletes often now reveal their handicap, and become spokesmen/women.  Red, great to find the resource, since even looking shows your motivation.

I'm struggling since I think I sprained my ankle, and have my leg up....
