Quit today on 9/11

I just wanted to say that I chose today as my quit date because I am very grateful to have the opportunity to quit smoking - the victims of 9/11 did not. It puts things in perspective. My heart goes out to all the families who lost loved ones. Wish me luck

Hi AL, hope you're ready for tomorrow. My first day is OK. I'm using the patch. I couldn't do it without it. This is my first post today, as I was out most of the day. Probably a good thing as it kept my mind off of smoking. I plan to be here much more tomorrow. I find the 3rd and 4th day to be two of the toughest, so I'll be here all day if I have to. Have lots of water handy, AL, and gum and sugar free candies. Deep breathing really helps me a lot. Will you be using the patch, or some other form of NRT?

Edgy...but hangin' in there

Day two. I feel edgier today than yesterday. I just made myself a big salad for lunch later and I did my deep breathing the whole time I was chopping. I'm just about to head up to the school for lunch and yard duty. The kids really keep my mind off smoking. Its great! I'm so glad this site is here, you guys have given me so much motivation. So yeah, I'm edgy and a wee bit miserable, but I'll survive. Have a good one! The Price$$$ of Cigarettes

I don't know about the price of cigs in the rest of the world, but here in Ontario I've been paying between 8 and 9 dollars a pack, depending where you go. So I'm really looking forward to saving that money. My son's girlfriend's mom quit a few weeks ago(and still hangin' in there) and every time she gets the urge to smoke, she goes upstairs and counts her money that she keeps in a jar now. I'm just lovin' that idea! When I get the craving, I'll count my money. It'll soon add up. Quit today on 9/11

Windy I hear you loud and clear. I went to bed at 8pm last night just so I could forget about smoking. The past 24 hours have been tough, but I will persevere, even if I have to sleep the day away! One thing I know is that I don't want to have to go through "hell week" again, I've been there too many times. So Windy, I hope you're feeling better and remember to take it one small step at a time. Addicted to being an addict? I don't even know if I've been restarting or never quitting

Hey Mithrask27, I agree with Katy. For some reason you always found your way back to smoking. In a way that's like me. After not smoking for 4 months, I found my way back to them. Its like I deliberately wanted to sabotage myself. Almost like smoking was still there if I still wanted it. Even after 4 months I don't think I was ready to really let cigs go. Cigs were a friend, there in good times and bad. But that's the rub. We've been duped, hoodwinked if you will. We chose to put to the back of our minds just how dangerous and devious smoking really is. My brother-in-law died of lung cancer at 50 years old - 2 pack a day smoker. That's the truth behind smoking. So stick with your quit and post often, especially when the going gets tough. All the best, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 80 Amount Saved: $18 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 2 Seconds: 1

The "Junkie" in my head

Sparky - you couldn't be more right. I don't want to do those two days over and over again. I've done that enough already. No, I fully intend to stick this out, and when I'm having a rough time I can come and post here and know I am not alone. I think we are all experiencing the Junkie inside of us and we have to learn to tune him out. Pinktexas - You are 2 full days into your quit as well. So we are probably experiencing a lot of same things. Hope you are doing OK. Keep me posted as well. Wish me luck

AL, Don't beat yourself up. I have been where you are many times and then some. This is a very tough thing to do and I admire you for even considering to go at it cold turkey. No way I could. Right now I am on the strongest patch there is, and even then when I close my eyes I see cigarettes dancing in my head. I've slept a fair bit the past few days because I just can't keep my eyes open. Maybe giving it a go with your wife and using a patch might help. I quit for 4 months last year with my husband and we both used the patch. His quit stuck, mine didn't. Now I hope it will. So keep posting Al, I know you'll do it! Edgy...but hangin' in there

I'm hangin' in there, guys. Is it possible to feel really happy and really grumpy all at the same time? Because that's how I feel. I am really tired too. I can't seem to get enough sleep. Last night I slept for 9 hours and I woke up this morning almost needing toothpicks to keep my eyes open. And housework???? I don't even want to look at it right now. My favorite word right now is delegate. Delegate the chores around for a bit, I deserve the break. Thanks for keeping tabs on me, guys, I really appreciate it. Gratitude

I'd say there are three lucky beagles who aren't being subjucted to the smell of smoke! And they truly deserve it. Even though their lovely little howling sessions can be a wee bit trying at times.
