Panic Attacks

Greetings, I'm brand new today. Does this really work? I've suffered for almost 7 years. I'm on meds with little help. There are 8 billion web sites. How can I know which is which. I'm even new at this computer stuff. 50+ gal needs some  support!

Panic Attacks

Thank you for your list of questions. i am new to this and still can't figure out how to get in touch with folks in the support group. Is has been so encouraging to read that others get panic attacks. I was convinced that I 'caused" them. I fear being away from home at night because that's when my attacks seem to come. I am on lexapro and xanax as needed. I'd like to get off all meds. Can this be possible?

brand new and need advice

Greetings, I'm a 50 year old newbee. I've suffered for 7 years and thought it was 'all in my head'. I though I was causing my attacks. The only thing I have not read, does any one have attacks that just go on and on like for a few hours? I get waves of uncontrolable chills, teeth chattering, shaking, and feel like I am going crazy. This is with being on Lexapro and Xanax as needed. Sometimes if I throw-up, It makes me feel better. I also have SVT (fast heart) which adds to the mix. I'm doing the box breathing and relax thing, but not sure how to do the Cognitive Behavior thing. Help

How kind of you to reply. I will check on the meds. Do you mean the homework sheets where you fill in about your thoughts and feelings when having an attack? My husband thinks I'm just depressed and need to get over it. I feel much better just typing my true feelings instead of hiding my panic.

new and scared

Dear Juday,
I pray your doctor was able to help you. Just typing my true feelings helps me a ton. Knowing others feel the same way makes me realize I am not "causing" these attacks, but I can to proactive things to slow them down. It's hard for strong women not to have control.

Depression & Panic - Which Program Should I Do?

Dear Cathie,
do your meds help? I've only been at this a few days, but would gladly take a magic pill if it would work. I'm on Lexapro 10mg and Xanax (as needed about 1 pill three times a week) Thank you for sharing your situation, it helps gals like me a bunch!

Dear Lore,
how kind of you to reply. I feel a zillion % better just knowing someone else knows what I'm feeling. My hubby is not a bad guy, he just has trouble understanding. I don't even understand it! Since there are thoughts, breathing, homework etc. I can do to help, doesn't that mean I AM sort of egging the attacks on?
On another note, the homework helps, the questions to ask about what is TRUE about your feelings help, and forcing myself to DO what I DON"T want to do worked yesterday. There just may be light at the end of the tunnel

Dear momsydo,
What a huge encouragement you are to me! You are the only gal who has written about the attacks lasting LONG! The books don't even talk about it. You are soooo right, yesterday for the FIRST time I explained what was happening and didn't hide ANYTHING. I have also felt i would be better off in Heaven, but never when not going through an attack. Gals like you are helping me so much. I wish I would have searched this out long ago, but was fearful about finding out what was wrong with me. Are panic attacks a mental illness, physical illness, syndrome, what?????

Panic Attacks

Thanks for sharing. I am so impressed with you girls. After 7 years, do you think I can get off the Lexapro? Every time I try the attacks come back in full force. I am on section 1 and doing the homework each day. Should I just keep moving on with the lessons. I'm still confused over the CBT. Will it be explained more later?

Great Day today! I think that I'm already seeing results from the Program!

I've been practising the breathing, questions, and relax stuff for mini attacks. Then Monday had a full blow out attack in church. Started in with all the self helps AND IT WORKED. In the past I would have run to the bathroom, thrown up, popped a few xanax and went home. I stayed the entire time, got home, did take one xanax to help me sleep, and woke up fine the next day. This is huge progress for me. I can't believe it is working for me. After 7 years, I thought there was no help. I had gone to a councilor once and asked for self helps (breathing, relax etc) and they looked and me with a tilted head and handed me a perscription. Thank you for your FREE site. It is helping so much.
