well irresponsible me... enjoys the sweet mixes and the depressant helps me feel more comfortable in a room full of people looking and judging me and breathing all my air.
of course alcohol anti-depressants and mood stabiliser put me on a nasty swing so I have to grin and bear the family functions on my own now.  thank god there are no more christmas parties!  my office gave those up as unpopular.

I'm lucky I guess that this isn't an issue for me - I don't drink and haven't for many years (just don't like the taste and as it's a social thing and I never socialise....), and my use of drugs ceased when my irresponsible youth slipped away back in the Jurassic.  Also I have two sets of ageing relatives living very near, and I never know when someone will need driving to the hospital or doctor. I would feel terrible if I had to refuse due to having had a drink or two.

I usuallt don't drink. I don't like alcohol.Just sometimes some red wine. When I was on SSRI I was taking the meds in the morning and on some special dinner I just tasted the wine... and almost everytime I ended with headache.

I totally alcohol and pills don't mix! Plus, I do find alcohol to be a depressant. It makes me feel so much worse. Haven't touched the stuff in a very long time!

I know someone who combines antidepressants and alchohol on a regular basis (a coping mechanism I suppose) against everybody's advice. The 2 just don't go together. I have not touched a drop of alcohol since starting my antidepressants because I think it is best. The main thing was that the alcohol aslo seemed to stop the effect of the antidepressants and made her worse than ever.

I once had a function that I wanted to attend and I knew alcohol would be served.  I used to drink occasionally "pre-depression".  So I asked my doctor with the meds I was taking if he thought I could drink.  He said yes, drink half as much half as fast and mix half as strong!  lol, that did not work!  I drank one glass half as strong over a long period of time and was very tipsy.  I haven't drank since then except at my son's wedding and drank 1/4 as much, 1/4 as fast and 1/4 as strong.  It worked much better but not as well as I wanted.  I just don't drink now! I don't use illegal drugs or abuse prescription medications, I have enough trouble keeping up with the legitimate presciption drugs and maintaining!

I think is important to take only what is prescribed as well.  It seems more socially acceptable to abuse prescripton medications, legitimize them in our minds, and easier to hide.  It begins a cycle of addiction that can only get worse!

Illegal drugs and Alcohol can worsen your depression.  Alcohol is a depressant and is not a fix to any problem. Mixing drugs or alcohol with anti-depressants can be detrimental to your health so try to avoid these substances at all costs.
