HI!! I am new here and I want to quit smoking more than anything!

After my first failed attempt......I am preparing for the 20th!!  I am fairly sure I have all my bases covered and I am prepared to let go of this horrible addiction once and for all.  I learned from my prior attempt what I needed to change to make this more successful this time!  Pray for me all!

      Looks like tomorrow is the first day of  your smoke-free life!  CONGRATS!!!  Keep yourself psyched up for the ride and kick some demon ash!!!   You  CAN  do this!!!  And you will do this because as you stated in your title post, you "want this more than anything!"  Embrace that thought... it will take you to where you want to be!

How is it going today? Seems like lots of great advice here for you! Have you thought about using the patch? It would help with your cravings but also prevent the damage to your body that every puff on a cigarette provides. It would also force you to develop new habits to distract your fingers and mind as the urge passes.
 
Please start the program: the readings and activities have been created to assist you during this challenging time. Do you have a Quit Date planned? You can start the Quit Meter based on that date to keep you on track and give an injection of reality to your quit.

This is an incredible journey you are on and you have to remember to be gentle with yourself.  A lot of times it's not how or why you slipped that matters....it's how you get back up and continue the fight.  You are the only one that matters in this case and this is your quit so work through the program and lean on us for support.  I agree with many posts here......you have to plan and prepare.  Alan Carr's book was a lifesaver for me and it helps to change your perspective on the quit so I highly recommend it.  Stay strong.....you can do this!  Wishing you the most success and hope your struggle decreases as time goes on.

Hi Cyndi, what helped me in the early days was as soon as a crave hit I'd do some really deep breathing exercises, then it would be off to drink a freezing cold glass of water or grapefruit juice, all the while keeping an eye on the clock.....a crave will last a maximum of 4 minutes, watch the clock tick by while you do the breathing exercises and the crave passes. Then I'd settle down and wait for the next one and I'd go through the same routine,  they came very quickly one after another  for the first 4 - 5 days and then it started to get better.
As Charm says, go through the programme, it'll really help. Good luck and stay strong

It seems like you are just almost ready to tackle this quit.
 
I don't know if you have went thru this program or not, but you should. Click on the blue dot with the house inside it just left of the word Community. Go thru all the milestones one at a time, do the exercises it says to do, print out the ones that are important to you and it will help tremendously. Pay close attention to the milestone pretaining to "Prepartion is the Key".  Redetermine your quit day, reset your freedom meter and watch the days grow.
 
You are going to do great, you have the determination, now you just need the knowledge you can find on the website.

Take some time and explore old posts.  Its amazing the advice and support people have to give.  In the first two weeks of my quit, I would read past posts during intense cravings or to just pass some time.  It really normalized the process for me....I discovered that I was experiencing similar withdrawal symptoms and learned a wealth of coping strategies.
 
I agree with Charm:  get rid of your cigarattes!  This is way too tempting.
 
I also agree with Breather:  read Allen Carr.  He recommended it to me during my first week here and it has changed my life and my outlook on this quit. 
 
I really believe when people say NOPE, not one puff ever.  I think whether you are smoking a pack a day or 2 cigarettes a day......an addiction is an addiction.  I think it may actually be harder to cut down rather than quit.

Hey everyone......and thanks for your best wishes and support....I have had a few slip ups again today but I am not smoking anywhere near what I was....I am hardly smoking and I am feeling sick to my stomach..I don't feel like doing anything and I feel the safest in my bed where I won't smoke.  I was smoking a pack or a little more a day and have been smokiing maybe 2-5 cigarettes a day since Wednesday.  I have a slight headache and I am still determined to continue to quit.  I know I have started the journey in spite of my slip ups......I know that tomarrow I am going to start the day with a shower and a different routine than normal to stop the cycle I am used to doing that includes the battle of needing a smoke in the AM.  Are the feelings I am experiencing normal?  Are these withdrawal symptoms??  I am doing this cold turkey but tapering quickly.......

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement!!  I appreciate the advice about how to deal with my disappointment in my slip ups today.  I know this is a beginning to a great outcome and I plan to see this through to the end---becoming a non-smoker!!  I so look forward to that day!  Tomorrow is a new day and new ideas to try out!!  Thank you alll so much for your input and I can't wait til I can post tomorrow and update y'all on how its going!
