Cigarettes Not Smoked

Thanks for the support, guys. It's all going pretty well for me. Now that I've got over the worst of the craving, it's all about keeping up a positive attitude. I loved that post of Mercy's where she said that "the ONLY thing you're giving up is cigarettes", and I've found that it helps to go a step further, and tell myself that it's not just about stopping smoking, it's about STARTING a life free of that crippling nicotine addiction. Also, I mentally refer to the guys who hang out on the sidewalk outside our office for the ciggy break (I was one of 'em last year!) as "the Tobacco Slaves". Helps me remember there's no way I want to go back. Way to go Marcus! Those darn smoking dreams freak me out. I know what you mean about the deep breathing, Anna. It works great at the dentist too! Hang tough Marcus, you're doing great! Go Marcus!!! In the beginning I would tell myself to go ahead and smoke one...I knew that I didn't REALLY want to, so I didn't. For some reason, giving myself permission to smoke made me quit. I know, I am funny like that. I also fake smoked. Take a deep inhalation breath and blow out real slow. It will get you through a crave. Or labor pains, which ever is worse. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 364 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,460 Amount Saved: $1,528.80 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 15 Mins: 1 Seconds: 43

omg - I had a dream once that I was at my old job, leaning on a post, and just a smoking away. It was so realistic that it scared the crap out of me. My old boss walked up to me and was talking to me and then I realized I was smoking. I tried to throw it away but couldn't, and I was so freeked out that I had fallen off the wagon without my own permission. Yeah, the dream was too REAL for comfort. Later on this morning, there was that little voice going "it tasted good, huh? Why not just have one - you know you want to". Heh. Didn't last long. I went around muttering "you can quit whining, 'cos you're not having one" for a few minutes, and all was ok. Sends you a bit crazy, this quitting thing, doesn't it? :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 120 Amount Saved: 31.80 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 50 Seconds: 33

Haven't read the Alan Carr book - I'll have a look on Amazon later today. Thanks for the recommendation. Hell week's just about over, and the closest I got to smoking was that Marlborough Red I got halfway through in a dream last night before I realized what I was doing. It was a relief to wake up and discover I was still smoke-free.
