My final quit!

17 years ago 0 2 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks for the support. I really appreciate it. I do know my triggers... so if I could only quit my job (ha ha). Seriously, though, it feels really good to be part of a community of others who are dealing / have dealt with many of the same issues. Maybe a little extra outside encouragement is all I needed all along. Thanks again, and I'll keep you updated (so far so good). I've been a smoker, on and off, for 15 years. I've "quit" multiple times. Most recently, I will quit, but then have multiple 1 or 2 cigarette relapses separated by a number of weeks or months. Am I the only one out there who finds the first few days/weeks not that bad, but keeps getting tripped up months later durring times of stress? Anyway, my wife is a Nurse and HATES smoking. When she catches me after a relapse (she can smell it a mile away), she goes nuts. She's seriously threatened leaving me before over it, and I think she may actually do it if I don't quit FOR GOOD this time. I also have three small children, who I never smoke around, but who may still be getting some adverse effects from "3rd hand smoke", which I just recently heard about, when I relapse. So, this is my final quit - no more relapses - so I can keep my wife, have healthy children, and be around for them when they become adults. Wish me luck - I won't need it right away like most of the people on this site, but I will need it for many moments during the rest of my life.

I have smoked for over 35 years. It took me over 2 years to get to this point but I finally have day one without a cigarette. I feel relieved. I have been making myself crazy with pressure to at least TRY to stop. I think I did pretty well considering. I am nervous about the morning though but looking forward to putting some smoke free time together. I am trying to see it as a challenge and it's helping. I never thought I could even do one day and was really afraid of failing. Kind of silly, huh? Wish me luck and luck to all of you!

I also quit to keep my marriage. I quit to keep a promise to my father when he was dying form smoking. I quit when his brother died from smoking, and this time, I quit with the original idea of saving my marriage, again, but it will never work until I quit for ME. No matter what happens to my marriage, I'm not going to smoke TODAY! Everyone who quits, or considers it, knows the bad it does to our lives, but so many times we have quit for all the wrong reasons. WE have to want to quit before it will work and before we can stay smokefree. Good luck with your quitting, I am newly back to a non smoker, after 3 1/2 years without a smoke. This time I'm doing it for me, and whatever else happens, happens. If I continue to smoke, after 28 years of smoking, there will be nothing else that matters anyhow, except is my life support machine giving the proper dose of air to my lungs? This is a sickening addiction, but the reality of it is, it can be licked. Not silly at all. Getting one day is difficult. Think about how often that one day comes around. Welcome! Welcome Newbies, I feel the best thing anyone can do is quit that horrible habit that we all come across in our lives... no matter how you do it quitting is the best thing that you can do ...and then being strong and remaining quit is another task you must set yourself up to accomplish... however i do agree if you quit for yourself...usually you quit and stay quit... I too quit for various reasons in the past but this time .. I went through the storm on this quit none like i ever experienced before i knew this one was different and deep down inside i knew it was real because i was doing it for me .. my life and also to see the lives of others that i truely love ..but i did all this for me because it was the right thing to do ..and yes i'm human and i do get urges but not that bad where i want to go through hell again.. i been there and i survived and i want to keep it that way ... Be strong trust and believe have faith .. pray and it shall be yours.. Quitting is good .. Good luck to you and your family P.Loving My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 41 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,255 Amount Saved: $161.95 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 10 Mins: 18 Seconds: 41

Final quit Non smokers - DONT SMOKE. Not ever. Everytime you do, you have to go back to day one. Yes I know what you mean. Each time it was easy first few weeks, reason for that is that you are focusing on your quit, putting all your energy into it. Further down the line your reasons for quitting (you have some more money and your health is feeling better - whatever reasons - its not so strong) the reasons to quit are further away so we dont feel so focused. What you need to do is reaffirm your quit. Read here and realise that most people have a slump around 3 weeks 50 days 3 months 100 days When you know this, you get power, Knowledge is power, and is the tool that you need to beat this addiction. If you stay here read and post often and you want to quit. It will and can be your very very last quit. It is mine this board has certainly helped me. Congratulations on your quit. REmember those common relapse times. It might help you. Is there a group for August quitters? Join it - if not then form one - supporting others at same stage as you can really help.
