The slippery slope!!!!!!

Social smoking exists for me - as much as social drinking exists for alcoholics. True ex slave. My boyfriend was a social smoker. He would smoke when out having a few beers, he would even buy a pack. Next day he wouldnt smoke any at all or even want to (I would finish off the pack). He wasnt addicted like me. Either that or he is addicted to food instead. So he ate instead of smoking. I know one thing for sure i can NEVER be a social smoker.. not ever. If i smoke one.. that would be it, I would have to buy 10 just for now.. then tomorrow just for now... and on it goes again. You know, if I had not reset my meter, it would say 38 days now. But I don't think that I would be very proud to display it as I am now. I would know the truth. My lungs and heart know the truth and I don't think the people who don't reset are really fooling anybody. I really did have a lot of strong feelings reading the post about social smoking because I have that nicodemon thing about it. Maybe all of us do...and we want to believe it so bad. But it's not true and never will be. If you look on the thread that talks about junkie talk, you see it all over. That thought is something we all seem to have in common. That fantacy I mean. But that is not true any more than a white knight on a white hourse is going to come sweep me away to a castle. And also, they are not going to invent a safe cigarette or an easy cure for everything that is caused by smoking. Heaven is a non smoking place. Thank you, I really needed to get that off my chest. My feelings in reading that post were very confusing to me. I don't really know what I was feeling. Skidoo1967, Thanks for sharing your experience, an excellent example of you making a choice that was best suited for you & your quit. Does anyone else have an experience like this they'd like to share? Danielle __________________________ The SSC Support Team

Phillip, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this matter. Unfortunately, not many get it right the first time. It a process of trial & error which leads to continued growth, progress and learning. Many slip and for some, they feel so horrible, it helps solidify their quit. We can only encourage and support them to stay on the right track and keep them from rolling down that slippery slope. Thanks again for sharing this with everyone. Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

I am right where a lot of you are. I was very disturbed by the casual attitude in another posting and I had to vent to someone I had met here because if I had been only 1 week into my quit, I would have started thinking the same way as the person who posted another topic. I started out as a social smoker 20 years ago and 33 days ago realized, well, I could never be a casual/social smoker. It pained me to see how relaxed that posting was and how strong nicodemon is in our minds to lie to ourselves and say we can quit whenever. If I could quit whenever, why did it take me 20 years? I love to see the meters because it gives me satisfaction to know it can be done. But to see a meter with high numbers but hear now and then that they slipped soemtime in the past, how true is that meter? Kind of disappointed me in a way. Pathetic, yes I know, but being a newbie, those meters mean the world to us. I decided the to set my meter back to 0 after I slipped because it made me accountable. I made a HUGE mistake by taking a drag - was not even the whole cigarette, just a drag - but you know what? That would have led to one more here and then one more there if I had not fessed up and started over. I'm with all of you who know that there is just no such thing as a "social smoker". It's still smoking, it still counts, it could still kill you. Hi Philip, I've noticed this as well. Check out ChickenStix's post of today - a bit worrying to say the least Mr Ed :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 147 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,419 Amount Saved: 1102.5 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 13 Mins: 24 Seconds: 15
