Rob,

I replied to one of your posts in Mod's corner.  CBT is only effective when you do the homework.  The worksheets will help track your homework exercises.  If you follow the program, it will all come together for you as you start to feel better.

The symptoms you describe may be adverse effects from the meds.  I suggest you consult your pharmacist or doctor about this.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions or concerns.

Keep up the box breathing and muscle relaxation!

I feel like this will never end

Carmen,

Please don't give up, there is hope.  Challenge those negative thoughts and be patient with the CBT as it takes time and alot of work, but you can do it and come out feeling better.  Inform your doctor that the antidepressants are not working for you and ask what other alternative are out there.

Continue with the chnageways relaxing CD and try practicing box breathing and deep muscle relaxation (check your toolbox).

Things will get better, hang in there!

feeling guilty about feeling down

Lara,

I recommend that you try the Exposure Planner and Tracker to assess your social phobia.  Let us know if you have any questions.

Keep moving forward!

Did you know?

Dear Members,

Did you know?

Women are roughly twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with panic disorder with agoraphobia. This occurs when a person with panic disorder goes to great lengths to avoid situations which they feel they could not escape from or obtain help if struck by a panic attack. In some cases, people develop a fear of being alone. People with agoraphobia often avoid public transport or shopping malls, others refuse to leave their homes, sometimes for years at a time.

Purge and Organize!

Dear Members,

Need some organization?  Are you cluttered, inside and out?

Make sense of it all, without having to feel overloaded and closed in.

Take it room by room, and start purging.  Get rid of anything you haven’t used for more than a year.  Clothes, toys, knick knacks, books, shoes, etc and free yourself of clutter.

This can be very therapeutic!

  • It keeps you busy and occupied
  • It frees you of clutter
  • It can relax you
  • You may actually find something you lost.
Purging can be a great coping and relaxing technique, so start with one room and work your way around the house!

Feeling trapped

Sheba,

Take some time out for yourself. How about a break, perhaps a walk to focus your attention elsewhere.  Members, have any ideas or words of encouragement for Sheba?  Hang in there.

his success, my success

Goofy,

There you go, not only are you a devoted parent and care about others with mental illness (like walking for NAMI!), but a valued employee at your work place among many other things!  Deep inside you know you have accomplished alot and for someone to recognize or reaffirm your accomplishments through praise makes you feel good yet undeserving of it because of depression...hence the crying perhaps?  Members, have you also reacted the same to compliments from others as has Goofy?
