Hey, everybody. My quit program got accelerated a bit. I had not set a date yet & was still keeping the diary when I went to get smokes at the neighbourhood gas station. I had expected that the price would rise with the recent new budget, but I was absoloutely stunned when the kid at the counter asked me for $12.07. In that moment, I felt so stupid and disgusted with myself, I decided that that pack was going to be my last. I cannot justify that level of idiocy anymore, addiction be damned. I am not going to pay that price. So 5:50 pm last night was my last smoke. I feel kind of strange today, shaky, hard to concentrate, sleepy and I 've told the people I work with that they might see some bizarre behaviour from me over the next couple of weeks. Everyone will just have to deal with it. I AM DONE

Thanks for the support, everyone. Bear, I was still deciding what, if any, aid I was going to use when I up & quit so no, not using anything so far. I may give tHE patch another go if it looks like I'll need soMEthing. I did borrow someone's idea from this site, though. I have an elastic band on my wrist & I have written NOPE & dollar signs on it. It's a good reminder & I can snap it for something to do with my hands!
No, for sure not my first time & yes, I'm Canadian. I agree, you do have to follow the rules with the patch & congrats for doing so well with it. Did you use "fun" & "quit" In the same sentence???
I hear that, Bear. I have been through a lot of adversity in my life & have always been able to keep my sense of humour & see the lighter side. I think the reason I've had trouble seeing quitting that way is because when I don't smoke, I don't feel like myself & I'm less sure of my view of the world. BUT, as I said earlier, I have never asked for help or support before & that alone has already made a big difference. I can see from reading here that many of you are able to laugh at yourselves, each other & the entire situation we're all in & I absolutely love that! I feel so optimistic & positive about this and I know I can do it.
Hi again, guys. Got thru the weekend, even had a couple of beers ( I AM Canadian after all) & a scrap with my daughter. I can't say it was easy but part of my motivation was looking forward to letting all of you know I had a successful weekend. You are all awesome & thanks again

Hey, Dee. You're doing everything right, you'll be in great shape for the big day. It's on my calendar so I think of you & send good thoughts whenever I glimpse it on the wall! Bear, I'm happy to be on your buddy list but I'm kind of tecnologically challenged & have no idea how to use the IM.
Both excellent ideas for those of us motivated by the meter & the money. I agree that this wouldn't work for everyone but I think it would stop me if I really took a sec & thought about my meter & actually pictured myself having to reset it. I would be furious with myself.
