Making it Happen

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I have been here before and have read so much. I have learned allot here also. I hated the guilt I felt when I failed...and then wouldn't write anymore. Phil,...you're right... the road does get bumpy sometimes. Hang in there Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 490 Amount Saved: $107.28 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 4 Mins: 17 Seconds: 25

Valentine Storm is a Trigger

Hi Everyone, I have a day off from work today!! Please don't laugh... but even after not smoking over three weeks...the storm is a trigger!!!!! I know I won't smoke...but I wanted to enjoy the snowy day and somehow I associate it with coffee and cigarettes. So I feel sluggish. I am a type A personality..and it is past NOON..and I am still in my pajamas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WEll... I'm going to put my sweats and venture down a trail behind my house with my dog and see the pretty snow. I sure hope that perks me up. I will also read two inspirational things that keep me going, Am I the only one that finds a snow storm a trigger???? One of my failed attempts happend when they predicted severe thunderstorms this summer. I had quit for about 5 days and like someone hypnotized...I got into my car...went to the corner store..bought cigarettes..and drove home. It was like I was in some trance...or outta body experience. I just did it. I couldn't see enjoying and old fashioned thunder storm without smoking. Then the twist was, I didn't enjoy smoking that night listening to the rain and thunder as I felt soooo quilty. I'll use that memory to learn I can enjoy being cozy in the house without cigaretts. Gosh..... how crazy this habit is. Someone who has never smoked must think we are nuts. Day 3 ends

Wazzdo, Your doing great. It will be awhile before you feel comfortable at the computer. I have quit several times and it was always hard to not smoke in the car. Each time I failed I would NOT let myself smoke in my car. Now... the car is not a trigger at all. So your mind (not body) is leaning you can be on that computer and not smoke. Pretty soon the computer won't be a trigger. You will find that each one of your triggers will quiet down as you become famliar doing them without smoking. I have learned the real trick is to know "YOUR" triggers. They will sneak up on you if you don't make sure you know what they are. If we are honest we all know what our real triggers are. The past month I had to work on the phone trigger!! I was surprised last night when my friend called me I didn't think about smoking too much. It use to drive me crazy. Real crazy. I think we expect to be cured so fast. Too fast. It's like going on a crash diet and losing weight real fast.... only to put it back on faster. If you lose it slow and make the life long changes... it will stay off. The same with smoking. We can't smoke all the years we did and be cured so fast. Hope this helps Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 490 Amount Saved: $107.28 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 4 Mins: 20 Seconds: 21

Valentine Storm is a Trigger

Thanks everyone!! I got thru it. It wasn't one of my best days...but the day passed...(along with the walk) and I didn't smoke. Today is a new fresh day and I feel better than yesterday. As for the walk...it was so pretty. There is hundreds of acres of forever wild behind the house with lots of trails that lead to the cliffs of the bay. It is very pretty and all the seasons have it's own beauty. Yes.. I do believe in that advise that you need to experience everything without smoking...and that takes time. You need time on your side. Thanks again Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 508 Amount Saved: $111.75 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 7 Mins: 12 Seconds: 37

Should I Worry

Hi everyone, I am getting close to 4 weeks quit. I use about 3 to 4 pieces of 2mg gum a day. Most days are real good...but like everyone a few bad days mingled in. My question is....I am not coughing up any phlegm since I quit. Should I be? I never had a smokers cough before I quit. I have smoked for over 30 years and can't say I ever had a rattle when I laughed.... I had begun to notice when I smoked phlegm that sort of just came up...like clearing your throat and then swallowing. If I don't cough up phlegm does it mean I am not healing or it is not loosing up? Trying Again

FiFi, You will like it here. You did it before... you CAN do it again. Make it a happy experience....a positive experience. It doesn't have to be all bad. I have quit several times. And failed several times too. This time I am looking at this as an exciting journey...and IT'S WORKING!! I want to see what real life is like on the other side of the no smoking fence. Those non smokers look pretty happy to me. I know I wasn't happy a smoker. Just tired of the whole worry thing. I'm sending lots of good vibes your way Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 28 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 572 Amount Saved: $125.16 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 17 Mins: 5 Seconds: 16

yuck the smell!!!!!

Thank goodness I never smoked in my house. I know what you mean though. I never noticed smokers and how they smelled at work. How..... yucky!! Espeically when the smoke is stale. Even though I smoked I was always fussy about the smell. I had more ways of trying to cover up the stink. Nothing really works either. I was always brushing my teeth and washing my hands after every cigarette. I could not stand my hands stinking. Great post to remind us it is so much nicer to smell good.
