Hall of Fame

Ed, I have just re-registered, but the system makes you act like you are just quitting....so it's like starting from scratch. There is no utility to check "I am already a member" and now it is showing me as a new member. Rusty :confuse:

New on the block

Nolzrule, welcome!  I guess I am a Nole, as a graduate student at FSU. My undergrad is FIU, which means I'm a Panther-Seminole. But I suppose all that's moot if you aren't an FSU fan! LOL

Anyway, welcome  - you'll make lots of friends here.

UNHOOKED Celebrates 1 Whole Year!!!!!

Congratulations, Heather, for your giant anniversary. That's great!

As for your comments about the site, I think SSC changes as the people change, and yes, you are right...it isn't what it used to be. But neither are we! And that's a very good thing. All the new folks should know that as we quit smoking, we change...for the better. And they will make the site what it needs to be for them.

Desperate - I'm Going to Give In

Trooper, I'm going to say a couple of harsh things. First of all, the craving would have gone away whether or not you smoked. But you chose to smoke instead of waiting. You chose to smoke instead of plowing through. I'm sorry that you wish you had never started the quit. Because you went 112 days without smoking. That's almost four months. One-third of a year. That is a huge long time. The nicotine was long gone out of your body. It was pure addiction that you chose to succomb to. Now what?

Well, I will echo what Breanne and Lou said. It isn't the end of the world, and hopefully it isn't the end of your quit. But they are right. You have to want to quit for yourself. You need to figure out why you want to quit. Because if you really don't want to quit, then there isn't any reason for you to have come back here. But you did. That means you want it. So you have to figure out what you're going to do. Dump the quit? Or dump the addiction?

Do the program. Do other programs...there are others out there also. Do everything you can to save your quit...and your life. Because that's really what's at stake.

Good luck, Trooper!

Improving Time Management Skills

The Swiss Cheese Method: Your project/task is the cheese. Poke holes in it. Little by little, you will complete it!

If you are having trouble getting started, just do one tiny little part. For instance, if you feel like you have to clean the bathroom, but you can't get started, just go in and straighten the towels or wipe out the sink. If you can't get started on exercise, just go outside and walk around the yard for 5 minutes.

Think about priorities: does it really have to be done right now? Does ALL of it have to be done right now? How important is it in the total scheme of things?

Make an A-B-C list. A's are the things that must be done today. B's are the ones that you'd prefer to get done today. C's are the things you'd do today if you have time, but it won't hurt to put them off until tomorrow.

Do chunks: When you have a big job...like totally cleaning a room...clean like crazy for 15 minutes, then stop and give yourself a little break for 5 minutes, then start cleaning again for 15 minutes.

Buy a tiny little spiral notebook and carry it with you everywhere. When you have those stray thoughts...(need to remember to buy cheese, go to the post office, etc.), write them in the little book.
