Are people happier after age 50?

Hi,
I'll be 47 in a few months so thats pushing 50....part of me cringes at the #, but overall its ok. I am alot more comfortable with who I am, and look forward to enjoying my fifties.  Thats part of why I started here, to get help with my anxiety so life would be more enjoyable.  I have to wonder how people who have children later in life and still have youngsters to raise in their 50's feel?  My youngest is 18, but I know there are  people who in their late 30's  or  40's have babies. And then there are the sandwhiched 50 year olds with both kids and aging parents to care for.  Something to think on...gotta go, we are going to lose our power soon...a huge windstorm..better get the candles out.

general anxiety

Hi, I hope I picked the right thread to vent on...I've hardly had any anxiety for over a week, my negative thoughts  have lessened, and when it does start I control it easily with self-talk.
The last  two early mornings though  have been rough. I woke up yesterday in a panic after a horrible dream. It took a long time to calm down..even with all I've learned here. And when I went back to sleep I went right to the same dream..which freaked me out! Then the same thing today...even worse. Every body symptom flashed.....seemed like an eternity. The dreams are totally unrealistic and bizarre, but so real like. I wonder if its my negative thoughts /anxiety that the celexa is hiding coming out when I'm asleep...subconsiously? Ofcourse I overthink things, so  I'm writing it here, then trying to forget about them and get on with life. I would welcome any  thoughts though.

general anxiety

Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for your replies,
Red..Good advice..I will recheck the side-effects for  celexa..maybe nightmares is one?
Davit....Yes, it sure does help to vent here, I will try to "airwrite" ... I like that idea a lot. And I'm going back through the posts...I must have missed some.
Lucid_Dream...I think its probably a combination, but I'm not sure. Maybe Davit's right about the random thoughts coming in while I sleep...All I know is I'm a girl who hates violence and those dreams were full of it! Thats the scarey part, it was like I couldn't escape from all these terrible things around me, no matter how hard I tried.  Even when I fell back to sleep..creepy!
The day went on and I did forget about them , so I am once again going to take Davit's advice  and think that it was just a relapse, I'm doing great (which I am)  and its going to be longer between them.
Thanks again guys,Hope we all have a good night's sleep,
Cleo

Hi Lucid_Dream,
You are right..they are just thoughts...I had a great sleep last night..no horrible dreams...one that was a bit "naughty" haha... goes to show that they are just sleeping thoughts that I can't control but  I can control my reaction to them.
Hope everyone is having a good day.

getting out in crowds

Good going guys!  Rest up today.
I so  agree with the statement that a person should not let the little annoyances in life get to them or the negative rushes in . I  needed that reminder today. Thanks

The aftermath

KT,
You did fabulously! You rode the subway! You stayed for your whole shift! Big accomplishments.
You write that you praised yourself for only one second for being able to eat then the panic came?
I had an issue with being happy...I felt as though I didn't deserve to be happy, and when I was... something bad would have to happen to me. It took me years to understand why I felt like this. I still have to remind myself  that I deserve happiness  at times.
I know where it came from...my mother always says " hell  is on earth"... Her beliefs had been etched in me without me ever realizing. Subconsiously when I was happy or something good happened I waited for the "bad"..I'm sharing this with you  just in case you may have  similiar  thoughts inside.
Are you using the negative thougth sheets to analyse? If you write down the thoughts that make you feel dejected and question their value you will see they are not true!! There is so much  hope for you..... be proud of yourself. We're all proud of you.
