Are you craving a cigarette? Or are you just hungry?

I've discovered that neither is true. I'm eating out of boredom. My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 28 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,122 Amount Saved: $207.2 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 19 Mins: 18 Seconds: 45

A lot of people confuse the feeling of hunger with a craving for a cigarette; especially people that are trying to lose weight or not gain weight while they quit (people on a diet and/or exercising). Being aware of this possibility is winning half the battle. Remember - Knowledge is power. The other half of the battle is deciding what action to take. Since your mouth is getting used to not having a cigarette in it 24/7, it is probably going to feel odd for a little while. Once you do get use to it, that is another smoking memory conquered. Now what to we do to reduce the hunger pangs, because we sure do not want to feel like we are craving for a cigarette, right? RIGHT! Here are some ways to reduce or deal with hunger pangs: 1st off, feel good that it is a hunger pang and not a cigarette crave.

Hunger pangs usually go away within 20 minutes
Drink water or another calorie free drink
Get some natural sunlight on your skin
Make sure your diet has plenty of fiber
Avoid refined sugars
Munch on cabbage or bok choy (basically no calories)
Stir fry cabbage and/or bok choy with onions, garlic and soy sauce, keeping them crisp. A great snack with hardly any calories
PICKLES (buy the no sugar, no food coloring kind ... hardly any calories
Apples are only like 50 calories
Exercise. Exercising releases stored body fat and converts it back into blood sugar, which raises your blood sugar level and suppresses your hunger cravings
Eat small things throughout the day, instead of 2 or 3 meals a day
My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 85 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,570 Amount Saved: $340 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 4 Mins: 59 Seconds: 48
