We can’t stress the importance of participating in pleasurable activities. Instead of moping in self-pity push yourself to become more involved in your life. Start out by challenging these negative thoughts:
- I can’t enjoy anything when I’m alone.
- There’s no point in doing anything because I failed at something important to me (eg. didn’t get the job, relationship broke-up).
- Since I’m not rich, successful or famous, I can’t really enjoy things
- I can’t enjoy things unless I’m the centre of attention.
- Things won’t be particularly satisfying unless I can do them perfectly (or successfully).
All of these attitudes will contribute to less enjoyment in life. Set up a schedule that will help you enjoy pleasurable activities – whether it be by yourself or with friends or family.
