Myth or Fact

Parenting is only one influence. Peer pressure is probably a bigger one. It certainly was for me. Being small and weak added to it. Growing up in an unhappy household did not help.
Leaving it did not help. I took my baggage with me. Years later I am trying to change that.
It helps knowing about core beliefs and negative thinking. It also helps having some one point this out. Having a physical disability on top of that adds to the negative. It makes for a bit of a battle but the fight is worth it.

Members,

Myth: Mental illness is the result of bad parenting.

Fact: Most experts agree that a genetic susceptibility, combined with other risk factors leads to a psychiatric disorder. In other words, the root of mental illnesses is a physical.
