Thanks guys. So Davit, what you are actually saying is that I will need the meds regardless of how well I control my panic and anxiety? I'm fine with that. I just want to know that with this combo I will get over it totally..
One more thing... Whats the difference between this course and a course thats walked through a psychologist that wants to charge me $170/hr.?
To answer you with a condition. Yes of course there are people who use only CBT techniques, but. Statistics are that once you have and know what panic attacks are you will likely only get 80% free. That is pretty good actually considering everyone has some panic, they just don't turn it into attacks. We do. So you can change your lifestyle so it has less effect or you can ride them out. This 20% is nothing like the attacks you get. It is more like agitation or an unwell feeling. You can treat it with herbals or the lowest dose of say Valium or in some cases just relaxation. So with these conditions, yes people do get by with just CBT. The difference is when you do CBT and it is installed in your memory it will be there to use for ever where as Meds without CBT always return you to where you were and often worse as rebound.
Meds are not a bad thing, they just are not the answer for total freedom.
I don't have much advice to offer on this post, but I can tell you that my experience is kind of similar to yours. 5 years ago I had the attacks start and I was put on Prozac...did not do CBT and the anxiety/attacks did go away and I stopped taking Prozac after about 6 months. Now years later it has come back, and I am trying to only do CBT because I have read it's better for long term. I felt like as soon as I started I felt some relief, because I felt like I had some control over what was going on. I still have things that I can't do, and I still have a lot of work to do, but I haven't been doing it very long yet.
I think if you start this program you will get better. I only joined yesterday, but I'm fairly sure there are some successful members on this site that will hopefully be along soon to share with you.
I've had panic attacks and high anxiety 4 years ago and was prescribed Cipralex SSRI's for it (didnt do any CBT) my past 4 years have been relatively anxiety and panic attacks free so I went from 1 pill a day to half a pill a day 6 months ago and now to one quarter of a pill a day since 3 months ago. Last week I experience a series of panic attacks and wanted to find a new way to deal with anxiety and panic, not wanting to go back on higher pill dosage again.
My question is are there people on here that only do CBT and meditation'relaxation techniques without taking any medication?
How has that been working out for them? Is there anyone here thats been cured forever from panic attacks just due to CBT?
