Facebook in the Panic Center?

12 years ago 0 1665 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi everyone:   I feel it is essential to have available a program such as this one which offers complete anonymity.  I've had an FB account and closed it.  I did like the family and friends photos and what's happening.  Even with privacy options offered I still got requests.  Maybe they couldn't get into my private site, but they could see pics through someone else who was a friend and is their friend. ugh.  maybe I didn't want them to see my home, my private life.

In this link you are thinking of offering, how would those who do not want this option be protected?   Those who do go on would open up the gates to posts (?) from other members.  If so, a friend of theirs could see these posts with people's pics and read them. Would the posts from those who do not wish this option be seen?    No one would want to put their pic as an avatar and maybe would no longer be as open.  FB is a great way to reach a lot of people but I have to wonder if this is the right avenue for this type of group.  I don't have enough information to make an informed opinion really, but generally speaking, I don't think I like the idea.

We need a public awareness campaign - need the dollars to just bombard the public with info. and have counselors trained in CBT at the ready.  Wouldn't that be great.

That would be a definite "NO" for me.  I love facebook to keep up with extended family members and to see everybody's pictures.... not to mention hearing about some of the wild adventures people have.  But to me, it kind of seems like an online cocktail party... where most "talking" is light and fluffy and often not very real.  That is great for its purpose... social networking.

The Evolution Health forums, however, are people sharing their pain and fear and the real life dark side that we would never bring up at a cocktail party or company picnic.  Members are open and quite vulnerable here which is necessary to make progress. I would not want my fb "friends" and any "friends of friends" to be able to see what I share here.  Mental health issues still carry great stigma in society and I am not one to "out" myself... it's painful enough being private about it and only sharing with those who also suffer and understand (or are trained to help and held to certain confidentiality levels).

No, I definitely would not want to participate in linking to fb from here.

On the other hand I can see where any company trying to promote themselves would very much want to make their presence and usefulness known by marketing on fb and twitter.  If I'm not mistaken, EH already has a fb site (or used to) and everyone has the option to "friend" the company... I have not and will not for the privacy issues mentioned already... but there is that option if ppl want to connect in that way.

I wish I had the courage to get an account, but I haven't used any social media.  It looks engaging with the average, I'm told, of 109 texts per day of teens.

That could jump start anybody with interest.

Just so you don't think I'm abstaining. I don't have a facebook account anymore. Some one I trusted passed out my Address to a bunch of people I did not want. I was flooded with garbage.
I don't think I would want what I post here passed around on facebook. So far this is relatively anonymous. I feel comfortable with the people here. Now I feel like people are going to be looking in my window. So I have to be honest and say I don't like the Idea. But then I'm biased against facebook.

Hi members,

Our team here has been discussing adding a feature to the Panic Center that would give you the option of connecting your facebook account to the Panic Center. Possible things you could do would be linking discussions you create to your facebook account, have notifications when you complete milestones on yor facebook account, etc.  It wouldn't be manditory that you connect your Facebook account to your Panic Center account, it would just be an option.

We are just in the idea phase of this potential upgrade but before moving forward we wanted to run the idea by everyone here. We anticipate that this could be a controversial topic as some people would not want to sharewith their facebook friends what they are doing on the Panic Center.  However, some people might want to be open about what they do here.

What are your thoughts on this?  Please share openly!  Again, we will be carefully considering all member feedback before moving forward with this project.
