Obesity and Depression

Has any one successfully managed to counteract the side effects of SSRIs. Namely weight gain. Is it metabolic or is it psychological. If metabolic then the elimination of certain foods should help. If it is psychological then the reduction of quantity and frequency should help. I am not on an SSRI yet was still gaining weight. Certain foods are appetite suppressants and certain foods have little weight gain capabilities. I find that both sugar and salt increase the urge to eat but fruit reduces it, especially apples. Bread and potatoes are my worst enemies, even if I don't put any thing on them.
Oh and don't forget the time factor. When you eat is just as important as what.
Since being overweight or even thinking you are can contribute to anxiety,  I think this is a good topic for comment.

I can see how obesity and depression go together...I am overweight....and I guess, middle-aged...when does middle-age start exactly? I dont feel old..well..most of the time...  I'm 47...anyhow, I've  gained about 20 lbs since last year, since I started my SSRI. And I use elevators now..ha... It seems to be settling (thankfully) but I was already 30 lbs too much, so now I'm FAT!!
Lately I've thinking about it...wondering whats worse...I think the 20 lbs I've gained is because I dont have that nervous energy I used have when I had active  GAD...but I hated being like that so much..so which do i hate more? I'm still working on that one.....
I went to the sister site...and its not for me....

Members,

A recent U.S. study conducted by the American Academy of Family Physicians, has found that women of middle age struggling with obesity often become depressed. What’s more so is that obesity & depression seem to fuel each other in a vicious circle.

If you are struggling with weight, do be sure to visit our sister site:

Also be sure to share your experiences here! Chances are you are not alone!
